Does anyone know of a place one can go to for ALL pregnancy related needs/information? I know there are prenatal pilates and yoga classes around as well as nutritionists that help pregnant women, but is there a centralized location that has all this plus classes/lectures, etc. in one? A place where you can learn and ask questions?

What can I do next?

Hi! Try to look up a website for a place called Realbirth. They have lectures, etc, as well as prenatal and postnatal classes. They have a location in Hell's Kitchen and another one somewhere downtown. We took a CPR class there and it was wonderful. If it was closer, I would be going to classes with my 6mo!!
Hope this helps! Good luck

You could try Real Birth in Chelsea - I think it's on 25th Street. They have all sorts of pregnancy related classes - it's very natural childbirth oriented, so just know that in advance.

hi D.! you need to check out REALBIRTH !!! it is awesome! look them up on line or call information, the address is 54 W 22nd street. i know this because it's round the corner from where my husband works and we went there for a FABULOUS birth prep seminar when i was preg w my first child; also the director Erica Lyon wrote a great book about birth called THE BIG BOOK OF BIRTH. you will be so happy when you check this place out; it could literally change your life for the better!

and trash that What to Expect book; it will make you paranoid.

good luck!

Hi D.,

Have you tried Realbirth? I took all my prenatal classes there, and they have lots of postnatal classes, including those you can take with your child, and mother's meetings, breastfeeding support groups, etc. www.realbirth.com. They are located at several sites in Manhattan, including 22nd off 6th Avenue.

Hope this helps.

I cannot address where to go but as to better reading try these:

The Thinking Womans Guide to Childbirth (Henci Goer)

Pregnancy, Childbirth and the Newborn (Simkin, Whaley & Keppler)*

Birthing From Within (Pam England)

These will give you a ton of excellent, evidence based information without being alarmist. They are the books I always recommend to my clients to read. I will also add to the list "Ina Mae's Guide to Childbirth" It is filled with wonderful, empowering birth stories. Just keep in mind that it is VERY natural minded and for some women it is hard to rap themselves around the idea of it being 1970 and that a woman would choose to give birth on a bus in a caravan headed towards a commune in Tennessee with 20 friends all there in support! This quirkiness aside, it is a truly empowering read.

Enjoy.
