Seeking Pre-school and After School Care (Full Day)

I live in the Schaumburg, Illinois area and currently have my almost 4-year enrolled in a private daycare/pre-school - the cost, however, is so high I am near broke (I am a single parent with no child support). I am seeking an alternative, less costly, solution FAST! I am open to Christian schools or even park district - I am looking for pre-school education (not just babysitting) - full time/5 days per week.

What can I do next?

Hi E.,
I wanted to offer you additional help after reading the last post on your request...I am a licensed home daycare provider in Rolling Meadows (near 53&Kirchoff) and so I could potentially help with watching your child during breaks from school. I also belong to a local daycare association TOTS which has members as far west as Hoffman Estates so finding a licensed provider close to home may be an option too. Contact me if you find that you need additional care and we can talk!!

Not sure which side of Schaumburg you are on but I would check out Catholic preschools...best bang for your buck for sure! I am not sure how fast the good ones fill up -- but I heard that St. Raymond de Penefort in Mount Prospect is exemplary. It is near $5000 a year for preschool full day -- not sure if after care or pre-care expenses are too much more as well. Additionally, St. Emily Parish in Mount Prospect added full day preschool and I believe their yearly tuition is only $3500 a year. Granted, you will have to look for another alternative during school breaks (Christmas Break, Spring Break, Summer) as they are on a school schedule. Good Luck!

My kids attend St. Hubert's in Hoffman Estates, they do have all day 3/4 yr old preschool. Not cheap though. My daughter is entering the part time 3 year old preschool this year, 2 days a week, only 2 hours though. I think if you want all day, it is pricey.
I have been doing home day care for the last 2 years and one of my little ones won't be coming anymore. I know you said that you don't want 'babysitting' but if you wanted to chat, i would be happy to. Since my daughter is the same age as yours (she will be 4 in early Nov) it might be a nice fit. I only have one other little one, he is here only 3 half days a week and so I would really be spending time with my daughter on activities that would be enriching to her. I also have a 6 1/2 yr old son who will be in first grade there this year.
We live around Barrington Rd and Bode.
let me know if i can help you out in any way.
Lynn

Our son (almost 5) has been going to KinderCare since he was 1. He loves it and has made some really great friends. They have a good curriculum and he has learned a lot and more importantly, shows eagerness to learn. Our center (and I'm sure they vary a bit) is about $230 for a full day/full week. Honestly, though, go check out a few centers near your work or home. It's important to take a look at the center, meet the people that would be caring for your child. You (and your son) must be comfortable! Good luck!

Schaumburg Park District has a fantastic Preschool program. They have various options for days/times, but I am unsure if they have any more openings. You can see the program options and costs at their website www.parkfun.com and then go to Programs, then Preschool. Here i the link to the program options: http://www.parkfun.com/Files/brochure/2009_fall/brochure_...

They have a monthly payment plan (payments start September 1st and go through April). We took our daughter there for the 3 year old Preschool program and she will start the 4 year old Preschool program in September - she LOVES it and the teachers are fantastic! She has far surpassed our friends' children who go to day care where they teach them - and she only spends half days there! Excellent program, excellent teachers and lots of fun for the kids!

Hi E.,

Check out The Lutheran School of St. Luke in Itasca (630-773-0396/630-###-###-####). They have a wonderful early childhood program that includes school for P3 and P4 and a before/after school daycare program that has structured activities planned throughout the day.

The staff is great and very helpful. My kids (3) have attended the grammer school and childcare for over 10 years and I couldn't be happier.

Good luck!

Hello,
Look into Hoffman Estates Park District Pre-school.
Information should be on their web site. Also, Harper College does a day care.
You might also want to look into your local high school. Sometimes they have
a day care program.

Good Luck!

Hi E.,

I cannot remember the name of the church, but the one on the corner of Schaumburg/Springinsguth Roads has an all day preschool. They also accept kids based upon what you can pay (they are more reasonable). I have a friend who has her children there.

You might want to ask your local Catholic or other private schools if they participate in the "Preschool for all" program. It's a state-funded program for families that qualify to send their child to preschool for free or almost free (the Catholic school by me is $5,000 a year for pre-K but only $30 a month if you qualify). The income limit was pretty high to qualify, so if you get no child support you'd probably qualify. You can probably search online for "Preschool for All" or start calling schools and ask about it. Hopefully the classes are not all filled up already. Good luck!!

St. Peter Lutheran School on Schaumburg Road (in Schaumburg) is a great private school. They have full day preschool and after school care programs. Give it a try, it is worth every penny.

Hi E.,

My daughter (4 years old) attends New Hope Christian Academy on Palatine Road in Palatine. (It's close to Rt. 53.) She loves it, and it is very reasonably priced. They do offer full-day preschool 5 days a week, and I know they have openings. Their phone number is ###-###-####. Ask for Amy Louis, the preschool director.
