Seeking Playgroup for My 3 Year Old in Mesquite

My family and I have just relocated to Mesquite and my daughter is in dire need of some playmates. I have been a stay at home mother since she was born and it's always been just her and I during the day. Last August she started Headstart and a few months later I had our second child. Since moving she has not been able to return to school and is back to being home all day with just me and her 5 month old brother. She does really well with playing by herself but I know that she misses having other kids to play with. She truly just loves people and some of her favorite characters are Dora, Max & Ruby, Disney Princess', Sesame Street, Scooby-Doo and just about anything else that comes on PBS, Nick Jr., Playschool Disney, and a few from Cartoon Network.

So What Happened?

First let me thank everyone who responded to my request and apologize for the lengthy time it has taken me to respond. Right after I posted my request my husband and I found out that our then 5 month old was going to need neurosurgery on his lower back and spine because of a birth defect called tethered cord syndrome. To make a long story short he had surgery at 9 months of age (in July) and today he is a normal 15 month old boy. In September I'd met another Mom at Town East Mall who had twin daughters the same age as mine and a son the same age as my son and they all hit it off pretty good. However that came crashing down when her husband took a job offer in Denver and they moved about 4 weeks later. So now we're back to square one. It's just me and the kids all of the time now. My husband works 6 days a week plus is now going to Eastfield College 4 nights a week. I am desperately needing to find someone or a few someones with children around 4 and 1 that we could get together with, let the kids socialize, and give me some adult interaction. Oh and did I mention that we've also added a new puppy to the family. So anyone with suggestions or who may be interested please feel free to email me at ____@____.com way I will get it in a more timely manner. LOL Thanks!

My name is C., I have a 5yr old, 3yr old , and 2 month old. We live just east of Rockwall, when the weather gets a little warmer you should come out to the Harry Meyers park in Rockwall. It has a great splash park, its free and always a lot of kids to play with.

I am the organizer for The Mesquite-Garland Stay At Home Mom's Playgroup. We have activities all over the area: Mesquite, Garland, Forney, Rockwall, Dallas, and more. I have a 4 year old daughter, a 2 1/2 year old daughter, and a baby boy that will be here in June. I've lived in Mesquite most of my life and until I found this group I only knew 1 other SAHM.

Our group has at least 3 playdates a week (storytimes, bounce houses, potlucks, sprinkler parks, picnic, ect.) and we also have Mom's nights, couples nights, family events, a book club, an active message board, a freezer cooking group, and more. Our group started in December of 2006 and we all have a great time. The only requirement is that all interested moms first attend a public playdate (for safety reasons); pay $15 a year (after trying the group for a month); come to at least 1 playdate a month; and be respectful to the other members.

Anyway, I hope you'll check us out.

We are a DRAMA FREE group that is really focused on building friendships for our kids and ourselves. The group has been such a blessing for me, so feel free to contact me with any questions.

Hi M., I live in Mesquite and have practically my whole life. I am married and have 2 boys, ages 7 & 4. First of all, you could get your daughter into a headstart program in Mesquite if your able, if not the libraries in Mesquite are always having story time and different activities for all ages. This would give your daughter a chance to get out and you as well and meet new people and friends. Another idea is if she is interested in soccer they have instructional soccer for 3 & 4 yr olds who are not old enough to be on a team. It is only $20 and 1 day a week so that would help her with social skills and such.

You can find out about the soccer on mesquite soccer.org and then for other interests you can always look up on city of mesquite.com under upcoming events or parks and recreation. I hope this helps.

Hi M.,
Im a resident of Mesquite & have been married for 2yrs. I am from New Orleans BUT I dont have any small kids, im the grandma of 5 who are all living in New Orleans. It has been hard for me to make friends as well even at church. When i read your letter, i KNEW you were a home girl even BEFORE i got to the part of Gretna (ha ha). I would love to keep in touch if you dont mind because its nice to have someone to relate to from your own home. Whenever my grandkids come to town they are between the ages of 8 to newborn & i do have a 3yr old granddaughter named Laila, maybe we can take them to the park. I will also talk to the YOUNG ladies that I work with who all seem to have YOUNG kids & see about hooking you up with them to do Mommie/kids things. May God richly bless ALL that you set your heart & hands to do for HIM, and remember to BLOOM where you are planted. God knows your desires & He will send the right people in your life at the RIGHT time, just dont become discouraged. Hang on in there. Much Love.
