Hi Moms, I am planning on having my family portrait taken by a friend (trying to save some $)and am in need of some suggestions of great, outdoor locations in the Kansas City region. Also, my extended family in St. Louis has hired a photographer for a family portrait in October. If anyone has suggestions on a location there, I would greatly appreciate it, too. Thanks so much for your time!

I don't know if anyone has suggested it yet or not, but Loose Park is a wonderful place to get outdoor photos done. That's where I had my kids' photos taken last year. They turned out great.

The Plaza and Loose Park are great ideas. To add to them, there are some really pretty statues and fountains in the Mission Hills neighborhood. There's also Liberty Memorial and Union Station.

The fountain on The Plaza...oh and I second Loose Park.

For St. Louis, Forest Park is gorgeous and the Shaw Botanical Garden is amazing.

Not sure where you live but some locations in Johnson County that are great for photographs with children are Mahaffie Farmstead and Antioch Park.

I'm your third suggestion for Loose Park - it's just off the Plaza. It has an unbelieveable rose garden with stones and a fountain - there are pretty stone columns - hard to explain, but they photograph beautifully. It also has a pond with these pretty bridges that are draped with greenery, ducks, fountains in the water - they have pretty benches. Beautiful.
Loose Park has a lot of weddings, so think about that with your timing.....if you show up on a Saturday afternoon at 4:00, you could have a lot of competition for space!
I love Antioch Park, too (between 75th Street and Shawnee Mission Parkway on Antioch) Antioch park has a bunch of wood fencing that would photograph well and these cute little buildings your kids could look through windows and stuff. It's cute.
Good luck!

St. Louis has an incredible City Park right in the city, I can't remember the name, I went to a wedding there........sorry!! Someone in your family has to know what it is!

Loose park near the plaza or the fountains around the plaza. There are several fountains in the area that would make beautiful pictures.

If you want a country scene go to the Deanna Rose petting zoo on 135th and Switzer in Olathe. There are a lot of great areas for good photos there. Flower gardens, there is a small hiking trail in the back of the zoo for an area with a lot of trees. There are also tractors for decorations that would make nice background pictures and also a pond, barn, etc. It's also free to go to this zoo so would make a fun outing for the family as well.
