Hi. I am R. R. BSN, CNM, RM. I recently have been able to obtain privileges at Fairfax Hospital so I am able to do full scope care with Bettini Emery and associates and also be able to deliver my patients at Fairfax Hospital

Hi ladies, we recently just found out that my husband will be relocated back into the Annandale area. We have been in South Florida for the past 4 years and are due to go back to Northern Virginia by the middle to end of October.
I am currently 6 months pregnant with my second child and I urgently need an OB/GYN that delivers in Fairfax Hospital (I would prefer, a practice with Midwifes and OB'S) Since, my first child was deliver here in south Florida by Midwifes and I had a wonderful experience. Would anybody be able to recommend a good OB practice that they really liked, in the Annandale/Burke area.
I would appreciate any help.
Thanks,
C.
Ladies, thank you so much for your responses, it is good to know that Fairfax doesn't allow for midwifes, which kind of sucks! I truly appreciate you sharing with me your Doctors.

My OBGYN delivers at Fairfax, and I believe the nurse practioner is also a certified mid-wife. The practice name is Bettini, Emery & Assoc. ###-###-####) They are located in the Kings Park/Burke area. I've had 2 babies with them (last one 5 months ago) and liked them. Both my babies were C-sections, so I never used the midwife, but she did a lot of my check-ups, and she's very good, direct and caring. She is also able to spend more time with you versus the regular doctor. Her name is Risa Rispoi. You can tell her I recommended her!
Gooc Luck!!

I had my daughter with Physicians and Midwives (located in Alexandria) and had a very positive experience. I think they only deliver at Alexandria Hospital though. You might want to look into the difference between Alexandria and Fairfax hospitals - I've heard that Alexandria is smaller and Fairfax is a "Baby Factory" (whatever that means) Personally I would just research both of them. Depending on where you live Alexandria might not be much further away (I was living in Annandale at the time when I delivered there) Good luck to you!
Congrats on the second baby and good luck with the move. Both of my children were born at home with the assistance of the wonderful midwives from Birth Care and Women's Health located in Old Town Alexandria (I see someone else already praised them). They do have hospital rights at INOVA-Alexandria, but usually will do hospital births at your request...it is otherwise a choice between birthing at home or the birth center. Definately do the best research you can with the amount of time you have. Take care and best of luck
Hi Connie!
Good luck with the move and the new baby!
Check this thread out from last week - similar question, so lots of ob/gyn referrals for this area (mine included.)

Good luck! = )
I currently go to Bettini, Emery, and Associates. Dr. Bettini has retired from the Practice and they have a new OB/GYN named Dr. Shannon Cothran. I am very happy with them. They do have a Midwife by the name of Risa Rispoli. She does not deliver babies any longer, but she does see patients. Drs. Emery and Cothran do deliver at Fairfax Hosipital.

Congratulations! Welcome to Virginia. I am also due with my first in early January and have two places to recommend.
First is a practice called Birth Care and Women's Health. They are actually out of Old TOwn Alexenadria and specialize in Birth Center and Home birth. They are solely a Midwife practice, but that is my current choice. You can check them out at birthcare.org. They are fabulous. They do have a waiting list, but it's worth checking out.
I also started at a practice called Physicians and Midwives before I switched to BirthCare. They have 2 office locations and birth out of the Alexandria Invoa Hospital on Seminary Road & 395. At first I thought I liked this option, but after a lot of research and seveeral great mom's I decided to switch to a home birth. Phy & Mdw has about 10 midwives and 9 OBs. It was a bit daunting thinking about meeting all those people, but they run a good business.
In the end I think the decision is really up to the mom and her comfort level, but if you want more info about birth centers and home birth I can put you in touch with some great moms.
Best of luck!

Connie: I would highly recommend my two doctor's located in the heart of Fairfax not too far from where you will be. Dr. Kathy Wolf and Dr. Kacedan. They are the best. And I've searched around and they have the best bedside manner that've ever seen or experienced. Which says alot since I work with doctors. So you know, I was told Fairfax does not allow Midwives to practice at their facility. So, that may make your request hard to accomplish. Congratulations on your pregnancy and welcome back to the area. Best of luck, Stacwey
Hi Connie -
I know Dr. Crowther who delivers at Arlington has midwives in the practice and she is really wonderful! She is an OB who believes in birth as a natural event and not a medical intervention. http://www.arlingtonwomenscenter.com/about/
I would also second the advice about researching the hospitals - we had selected an OB at Fairfax and once we did some more research, we chose to go with midwives at Loudoun Hospital. I was looking for an opportunity to birth on my own terms and Fairfax was not the place for that.
Good luck with your move!
