Seeking OB/GYN in City

Sometimes I feel like I am the only woman in the city that didn't deliver at Northwestern. I wanted a doctor that wasn't part of a group so that I would see the same doctor for every visit and so that I knew that that doctor would deliver my baby. I went to Dr. Boatwright at Rush and was very happy. She is very laid back, which I needed since I tend to get a bit stressed and to be a worry-wort. There were negatives to my approach, since she is in private practice and does all of the deliveries herself, I did have some lenghthy waits but I was never cancelled as I was once when I went to Dr. Starr at Northwestern before I was pregnant. Dr. Boatwright does appointments into the evenings on Wednesdays and I found that those worked out best for me since I could go after work and took a book and didn't worry if I had to wait a while for my appointment.

My delivery went very well despite having preclampsia. The nurses at Rush are the best. It is a teaching hospital though, so if that bothers you, it is not the place for you.

Finally, our families are from out of state and Rush was really easy for them to get to since it is right off of 290.

I don't know if she accepts Aetna PPO, but I have an HMO and she accepted it so I would assume she would accept your PPO.

C. - I just had a baby girl 5 weeks ago and have been VERY happy with my Dr. He is my primary care dr's obgyn - so to me that says something... (We've been through alot...miscarriage, d/c, placental abruption resulting in a c-section, etc) I go to a male, Dr. Marc Feldstein but I have seen all of his associates. I would recommend Dr. Abbie Roth if you prefer a female. They are in 680 N. Lakeshore Drive - Suite 1200. ###-###-#### (Northwestern Women's Health Associates)

I have Aetna PPO and I used Elizabeth Nye and partners. There are three women in the practice, you rotate through visits with each one. It is on the 600 block of North Michigan Ave which was really convenient for me and I had a good experience.

I have a very healthy 4 month old boy who also was delivered by Dr. Chen. I have nothing but good things to say about her. My first child was born in Ohio and my husband relaly didn't like our doctor and made me know this my entire pregnancy. This time around he LOVED dr. Chen and she joked with him and talked to us about anything we wanted. She also was the dr. that delivered my son. Since this was our second child, they gave me the option of being induced no more than 1 week prior to your due date if I was progressing. This was GREAT because I was able to plan on childcare for my oldest child. The practice also has abour 4 or 5 midwives too if you would prefer to use a midwife. I highly recommend Dr. Chen!

If you've got no complications/are low risk you might consider seeing a midwife instead. They can spend a lot more time with you and take more of a "whole body", "pregnancy is a healthy normal thing rather than a medical condition" attitude. I went to the midwives at NMPG for my first baby, and I think I am going to go to the group at UIC for kid #2 whenever that happens. Especially if you're interested in minimizing interventions during the birth, a midwife is good. But even if you walk into the hospital knowing that you'll go stright for the epidural, a midwife will stay with you during the labor, as opposed to the doctor, who will just run in at the last minute to catch the baby.

I am also a HUGE fan of Dr. Garvey and that practice at Northwestern. Dr Garvey is my OBY/GYN and lucky for me, he also delivered my little boy 3 months ago. I also love Dr. Foley. If you really want a female, there is Dr. Chen, Dr. Starr and Dr. McNair - all really wonderful, friendly and down to earth.

I just had a baby in January and I use the practice through Northwestern Hospital. They are at 680 N. Lake Shore Drive, Suite 810 Chicago, Illinois 60611###-###-####. Their website is www.nmpg.com. Dr. Chen delivered my baby girl and she is great. I was seeing Dr Garvey but Dr Chen actually delivered the baby. The whole practice is really great and highly recommended by the Northside Parent Association- that is where I found it. Their group has a large following.
