I am due for my annual gyno check-up, and am looking for a doctor at UIC. Also, wondering if anyone has used UIC hospital and how they felt about it. I am looking to use them possibly down the road for childbirth (not trying yet)and am looking for opinions.

What can I do next?

I had my baby at UIC and received the best pre-natal care and when my son was born they were great. I continue to go there for all my medical needs as well as my son. Mary Orth is my sons pediatrician and she is awesome! I just had my yearly exams and I am as always satisfied with my visits. Christine Bobek is who I see and she is tops.

Good Morning A.,

My name is E. and I reside in Willowbrook, Il with my soon to be 12 year old son and I have taken him to UIC this past February '08, for an appointment with a Neuropsychiatrist. The visit was pleasant and the therapist covered several issues that I've noticed, from observing my son's learning performance and behavior. Since I work in the healthcare industry, I understood a lot of the information that was presented to me.

I can't say anything for the ob/gyn center, but the surgical staff, oncology, and gastrointestinal departments are fabulous. I have never seen such a dedicated staff of nurses in any hospital setting. The place may seem chaotic and definitely not "fancy" but the level of care is outstanding.

I'll reiterate several suggestions by previous posters...
My family doc is Evelyn Figueroa - she is fabulous and also delivers babies. I'm seeing midwives for my current pregnancy, but she's my backup doc for this and I would be 100% happy if I ended up with her delivering my VBAC.
There are also great midwives at UIC. Charity Cooper and Lin Schaye are the two I would recommend. The whole group is fabulous.

I have heard good things about dr. figueroa. The midwives at UIC also have a good reputation.

Hi A., I'm a devoted patient to UIC. two years ago I had a subclavian/carotid bypass there and last October my son had a pancrease transplant there and i can't say enough about the level of care we both received and still are receiving. as with all hospitals you have to know your doctor, a dr. can demand the level of care you should receive. If a dr. is respected, revered and demanding your care will be excellent no matt3er what hospital you are at

A.,

I've been going there for about two years. My doctor is Evelyn Figueroa, general physician, and she is the best. I'm currently pregnant thanks to the Infertility doc at UIC. I love my care with my ob doctor as well. I've received the best care there. I hope you find someone you like.

I had my first baby in Jan 2006. I was with Dr.Allison Cowett.I liked her but i am not sure if she is expecting patients. She was very warm and open to all questions. Right now at UIC i am seeing Dr. Megan App. She is young and does not have children of her own , if that matters to you. She is very professional and would not just chit chat with you , just right to the point. I think all doctors on team are great and i have no issues with anyone.
I am expected any day now with my second baby

You must see Dr. Wilkins she is at 1801 west Taylor. She is the head of the department. I just had her for my son now 4 months next week. She is straight forward. Warm, always smiles and very clear about your choices and when she will insist on her choice. This was my 5th baby I had three home births and two babies at UIC. My first 15 years ago, and my last December 6. Tell her I. Barberousse said hi. She is a must.

Hi A.,
I used a midwife group out of UIC. Charity Cooper and Kathleen Harmon. I think they merged with another group over there, but they were excellent. If you are interested, the phone number for appts is ###-###-#### or (800) 842-1008.

I delivered my 2nd son there. It was a good experience. Some of the L&D rooms have big tubs (I didn't get to use them because it was a booming place the night I was there). Overall it was a great experience.

My first was delivered at U of Charity Cooper . . I followed my midwives when they moved to UIC.

Thanks for the reminder, I need to make my yearly appt too!
