Seeking Moms with a Good OBGYN

I think I should be looking for a new OBGYN everytime I go she makes me feel really bad about myself. I know it is not just the hormones. I am on my second pregnancy Which this one was a shock. She literly scolded my saying well what was i using for birth control. I am on the heavier side but she went on and on about it. She is never up front giving me info about my pregancy. I feel like a can't ask questions with out being told well duh you are pregnant things happen to your body. I am looking for that movie type of relationship with my OB where there are just as excited as you are. It seems like my Dr. has been doing it so long that I am just another number.Does anyone have a OBGYN that they could give me there in fo in Colorado Springs,

What can I do next?

I recommend Dr. Biaza, he was sogreat even with my high risk pregnancy. He also was my sisters doc and remembered my when he saw me in her delivery room. He is at Academy Womens Health, but they just moved to Powers and Woodmen. Good luck!!!

I would definitely recommend Dr. John Baer at Colorado Springs OB/GYN. I am due at the end of May so I can't vouch for delivery yet but we had a horrible experience with our first OB/GYN and then heard about him. It is the first time I have ever been comfortable during exams and felt like my doctor really cared about me. He sees a lot of patients but is still very personable and his staff is very helpful. I don't think it is wrong for you to want this "movie" type of relationship. This is a very big life change for you and your doctor should be supporting and encouraging you every step of the way.

My OBGYN is Dr Lasley at Womens Associates. She is wonderful!here is the website. http://www.womensassociates.com
She was great with me during my pregnancy, and although she was not the dr on call when I delivered, she was there the next morning checking on me! I have never been comfortable at any of my OBGYN appointments until I started going to her!

I really enjoyed seeing Dr. Judith Brinkman at Colorado Springs Health Partners. Here is the website. http://www.cshp.net/Loc_East.asp

Agreed that you should be comfortable with your OB during this time but please don't have this 'Hollywood' vision of what it is supposed to be like since these providers see so many patients in the same day and need to keep on schedule.

Best of luck!

Hi K.,

My daughter just had her first baby 10 weeks ago. She used Dr. Davis-Best who is with CSHP on Lake Ave. in the south part of Colorado Springs. (There's also a bit about her on the KOAA.com website.) I was with my daughter during labor and delivery. Dr. Best was absolutely AWESOME, and had been through my daughter's entire pregnancy. I was right there at "ring side" during the delivery. I only WISH I'd had a doctor like that during my first child birth! She was so encouraging and really went out of her way to make sure things went well. Our baby was just as important to her as she was to us.

Dr.Baiza at Academy Womens healthcare is really great :) They're attached to the new penrose hospital. Here's their website with contact info and everything. Google still lists their old address, but if you go to their website it shows the new address.

Good luck!

Wow, that is a hard one. I think that you can definitely find a doc who has more empathy/sympathy and who you click better with, but expecting them to share your level of excitement may be a harder goal to attain. Just because they DO see alot of women each day. Yes, there may be a few patients that docs really connect with but I feel bad with how busy they are. I have spoken to a few OB's and some of them have expressed their disappointment with the necessity of their crazy schedules. Have you ever thought of getting a midwife who can deliver in a hospital setting? The midwifery model of care tends to support more quality time with women in general. Some examples of CNM's in Colorado Springs are:
-Sharon Ruyak and Alisa Linde at COS OB/GYN, ###-###-####
-Alice Cole and Carol Hurst at Blue Skies, ###-###-####

If you still prefer an OB, you may get along better with:
-Dr. John Baer at COS OB/GYN, ###-###-####
-Dr. Lisa Hovenga at Women's Associates, ###-###-####
-Dr Jack Tubbs at Associates in OB/GYN, ###-###-####
-Dr. Lee Ann Hammond at Colorado Obstetrics, ###-###-####

Additionally, have you ever thought about having a birth doula travel this road with you? They are the experts at compassion and continuity of care.

I also see Dr. Roland Baiza at Academy Women's Healthcare and would highly recommend him! He is personable, intelligent, funny, and very supportive. Good luck in your search!
