Seeking Moms in Contra Costa County, California

I need to find my daughter a pediatrician who accepts Blue Cross in Contra Costa County, California. As we have had Kaiser since my daughter was born five months ago, we are not familiar with non-Kaiser plan doctors. My daughter's Kaiser pediatrician was unable to provide us with any referrals for our area. My daughter has special health needs that will eventually require a visit to a child neurologist. The way our health plan works though, is that we must select a pediatrician first before we can visit a specialist. Any suggestions on a good pediatrician?

What can I do next?

We're located in Antioch and I've used Mahdavi, Abbas MD - Delta Pediatrics Medical Group. I can say the Doctor's are good as far as regular Peiatric stuff goes, but you'll have to seek out specialists and alternative medical treatments on your own. (I didn't get much help in that dept) But if you simply need to have a Pediatrician as primary care and you're in this area they might serve your need. They accept Blue Cross.

I don't know if this Dr takes Blues Cross or not but Walnut Creek Pediatric group is good. THey have 3 doctors. My daughter's doctor is Montgomery Kong. He is really sweet w/ kids and also has kids of his own. I have seen the other 2 doctors in his office and they are also good. You might want to give them a call.

I don't know where you are, but we are very happy with East Street Kids in Concord. Many other moms I know also use them.

I can't really give you a reccomendation, but I do have a warning. We recently moved here and I chose Dr. Rush as my daughters ped. A friend of mine had him as HER ped 25 years ago and her son has him now as well. She loves him, but I have not been impressed at ALL!! I have a really really hard time getting through. To make her year check up I was told to call 3 months in advace, and at that time the soonest I could get in was 2 months AFTER her birthday (5 months from the time I was calling) and it was at 5am! I have NEVER been able to get through when my daughter has had a slight emergency.. not really hospital, but something that was needed to be taken care of urgently, if that makes sense. Last week infact, my daughter was hurt about 20 minutes from home, I called on the way there, waited on HOLD the entire time. Ended up just taking her to urgent care and was seen in 5 minutes... Gah! Just a heads up.. he is part of John Muir Medical Group... I have heard though that hes really good with kids who have special needs. Hopefully this helps. Good luck
