Ever since I had my son last December, I have had SEVERE joint pain in my hands, wrists, feet, ankles, knees and elbows. It keeps me up at night, and restricts some of my daily activities. I am still breastfeeding and have heard that this kind of joint pain is tied to hormones and nursing. I should mention that my son is 24 lbs and not walking yet, so I carry him quite a bit. Also, I am a SAHM, so my insurance lapsed in February. I really don't know what to do and would appreciate any input...Thanks!!!

What can I do next?

I see that you're carrying your son a lot. Have you tried a sling carrier. It gives you 2 hands free and maybe you can give your wrists a break. I carried my kids well into their 2's. The over the shoulder baby holder is the brand that I liked the best. I tried a couple of others but they gave me a back ache for some reason. Also, no clips or awkwardness to get them in. Not as hot as the snugli which I also used briefly. It took only a bit of practice before I got the hang of it. At 24lbs I would do the position the baby on the hip and sling around the baby's bottom position. Check out the website, I think they even have videos now.

Good Luck,

H.,

Have you tried taking the supplement Osteo-biflex (I think that is the way it is spelled). You can get it at any pharmacy or grocery store. I know that it really helps me when my joints are really bothering me.

Hope this helps.

Have you ever heard of Mona Vie? It's a nutritional beverage made of the brazilian acai berry and 18 other fruits from around the world. There are 2 forms, Active and Original. The active has glucosamine which is great for joints but can't be taken if you're pregnant or nursing. You could take the original formula which is just the juice. There are fatty acids in it that act as a natural anti-inflammatory. Many people all over the world have had great results. My boyfriend has chronic back pain due to herniated disks and he's been pain free for 3 months. My mom and grandma have arthritis and are both pain free for over a month now. If you'd like to find out more, you can call me at ###-###-#### (cell..I live in Coral Springs) or check out my website...www.mymonavie.com/elucid

Hi H.,
I know what you are feeling. I had bad pain in my wrists and hands since 4 months before giving birth and maybe 5 months after. My doctor told me in the beg that it is related to corpus tunnel, or kinda similar pain. So, in the beg I went to my chiropractic which relieve it a little bit but it was too much money every week! so, I tried to hold on to it. Then, my son was born and it kept going, I finally went to a specialist who told me that it happens, blah! basically didn't help at all. What I did was tried to use his stroller around the house, sounds tacky but I didn't have anything else to carry him. And on the cold season using gloves. And even they sell a type of protection from your hands to your wrists (glove types @ the pharmacy) which helped too. It actually went out away after 5-6months. Try to talk to a regular doctor and see what he recommends. If you have the means to go to a chiropractic then go, it will help somewhat. Good luck!

I can completely relate. I had periodic joint pain prior to my pregnancy, which it has been almost one full year. I am still BFing and I am certain that a good 75% of the all over pain I experience is due to hormones, and the extra weight I'm carrying around. I still have 20 lbs to lose to get back to my original weight, so that's gotta be stressing my knees.

I take as many supplements as I can, calcium, potassium, MSM, that sort of thing. I take tylenol or advil daily, sucks, but what else are we going to do? I'd like to wean my son completely, but it is a slow, not easy process.

I'd love some advice on what to do when my son wants to nurse and I'm trying to get him to not need to anymore.

May God Bless You and Relieve Your Pain!
