Seeking Milk-free Cake Recipe or Bakery in Woodbridge or Nearby Cities

Hello Supermommies! Wondering if any of you ladies could recommend a specialty bakery in the nearby area, or if anybody had recipes/suggestions for a milk free cake. I checked out the local Wegman's, but they only had one gluten-free cake mix that I could substitute water for milk. I'd like to see if there are any other options. My daughter has a serious allergy to cow's milk, and she has her 1st birthday coming up very soon. Thanks in advance, for any suggestions! Blessings to all!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

Thank you so much for the helpful responses. I went with a gluten free cake mix from Wegman's, which I added water instead of milk. The vanilla frosting was margarine based; it tasted pretty good, too. The cake itself was very dense, but my little birthday cake monster did not know the difference. She devoured her cake! She has never had anything that sweet before, somehow I knew she would love it. :) Thanks again for the wonderful suggestions. I don't know what I'd do without you fellow-mommies!!

I don't know of one, but I would look for a Kosher bakery. You want a Parve cake rather than a dairy. This is what a friend of mine with a baby with a dairy allergy does.

I think that I have tried the gluten free mix that you have found if its chocholate. My daughter has a lot of allergies, milk just being one of them. This mix is soooooo good. My other kids like it better than the other mixes we have found in the store. Another thing I do to spice it up is to "flour" the pan with suger. It adds a nice touch even if she does not have a wheat allergie.

I have used a cake/candy supply store in Center Plaza in Dale City (Corner of Minnieville and Dale Blvd - same shopping center as the Giant). I am not sure what it's called and I think it's still there. They may have some recipes for you, but they don't sell cakes.

Maybe you could try to substitute soy or rice milk instead of water or milk? Also, most cake mixes i use (betty crocker, etc) only require water, eggs, and oil- no milk. I think they even have some that only need water now? the packaging info didn't say anything about containing milk either

In just ablut every recipe you can substitue soy milk for cows milk. AF

Try this site - they have a lot of information and recipes for all sorts of allergies: www.foodallergy.org (I wouldn't use a commercial mix, since often they have milk-based ingredients like whey in them.)

Since it's her first birthday, you can make her a small cake just for her to demolish/eat and then buy a regular cake from a store to feed the rest of the group. That's what one of my friends did.

If you can find a kosher bakery, that is another way to go - as the other poster said, ask for a cake that is parve/pareve (means "neutral" - not having any 'dairy' or 'meat' products in it.)

Good luck!

My son is allergic to dairy, eggs and soy. The cakes that I have made are from a brand called Bob's Red Mill. They are gluten free and dairy free. That way you know they are completly free of any traces of dairy. I don't believe they call for milk to be added just water, oil, vanilla. You can use rice milk if neeeded. My husband even thinks it's good. And if your daughter can have butter you can make regular frosting. I hope this helps.
