Seeking Midwife for Homebirth

Evelyn Muhlhan does homebirth. She is a CNM and takes insurance! She is the only legal midwife as far as I know who is practicing in our state. I think a great option is the birth center at Anne Arundel Hospital in Annapolis. I know its at a hospital but this is a birth center attatched to the hospital. You can pretty much dictate how your labor will go and the midwives are fab. Its called Bay Area Midwives. They like to keep you home as long as possible and then come deliver at the center, then you are home after about 4-6 hours after delivery. Being a mother who delivered two kids naturally with midwives (one at Bay Area) I can understand your desires for a birth with no medical interventions. I am also a labor and delivery nurse and have seen countless times medical interventions that were unnecessary and lead to c-sections. Bay Area is great because the hospital is right there "just in case" you or baby need assistance. For safety you may want to consider and certified midwife. Also, Alexandria VA has a group of midwives who I think come to your house who I think are certified (I just remembered). I am not sure what the group is called but I am sure they are on the internet. I am also not sure how far they will travel. If you are interested and can't find them just let me know. Good luck!

I don't think the midwives I use do home births, but you might call to find out. They are OUTSTANDING people, and I would highly recommend them if you do not find someone to deliver in your home. I just delivered one month ago with Julie Bell, and though it was in a hospital, she made all the difference in the world. I had a great birth experience, and accomplished it without drugs! We used the midwives at Special Beginnings in Arnold, MD for the birth of our first baby, and were so thrilled with their tender care. We are expecting our second in January, and are looking forward to the entire birth experience, as we know that we will be receiving the same gentle care in a loving and family-like atmosphere.
