Seeking Job in or near Denver

I am looking for a job, or at least the offer of one. I am fighting in the courts to move from England, where my husband has recently left me (after 20 years) and my two home schooling sons (aged 10 and 12) to live 3 1/2 hours away with his girlfriend. I want to live near my brother and his wife in Colorado. My lawyer feels I will have a better chance if I can show the judge a job offer. Of course, it needs to be flexible enough to allow me to care for the children.

What can I do next?

Got to Monster.com for posting your resume. You can get replies from companies there. Also go to the website of what county or city you are wanting to move too and see what they have to offer, call the school districts also to see what they have. I would say post your resume out there first, then see what happens. Indeed.com is another daily job posting site to see what is out there in a certain area for you.

C.,
You may have already resolved this, but wanted to let you know that there is a new job search website about to be launched in Denver which actually embraces and caters to re-entering moms! It's called www.careerco.com. They're going to offer lots of free resources, even free career coaching -- and I happen to know that they have a coach who specializes in moms re-entering the workforce.

They are hosting an event called CareerConnect on Sept 16 from 5:30-7:00pm at Rio Grande Restaurant in Denver. The tag line is "Network. Gain Resources. Have Fun." For more information, contact ____@____.com this helps.

Wow! What a resume. Seems you should be able to be hired by one of the cities or counties as a translator. The other thought I had, since you're working in music, is to contact some of the orchestras in the area. There is Colorado Symphony Orchestra (professional), Denver Young Artists Orchestra (youth, very professional quality), and Colorado Youth Symphony Orchestra (less advanced, but still good). Those come to mind right away. Almost all the suburbs have their own orchestras. I have some friends in some of them if you want more specifics. Also, Colorado Springs has a pretty good professional one. I'm not sure what jobs might be available, but I had heard through the grapevine that someone just quit at DYAO. Sorry, I don't know what position. I hope the move works out well!

I would also try using Craigslist - both for Denver and Boulder:

http://boulder.craigslist.org/
http://denver.craigslist.org/

There are a lot of job postings in a wide variety of categories and it is a well used posting site in this area. There is a resume posting section also although I have never used it and don't know how often employers actually use it. I would try looking for jobs in the Boulder area as well (the main campus of the Univ of Colorado is here) - it is more expensive to actually live in Boulder than Denver but it is an easy commute from Denver and the surrounding towns to the north if the right job presents itself (depending of course on where you end up living in the area).

Good Luck!!!

Hi C.,
Well first of all let me congratulate you for taking care of yourself and your children! I too was married for over 20 years, (four children at the time 19, 17, 13, & 8.) It is now four years later. I am doing great, even though it was a rocky two year ride.
With out giving legal advice, the courts do want to see that you are working towards something. I myself returned to school full time and held down a part-time job. Once child support and maintenance (alimony) was determined, I probably could have quit, but I stayed on for a while longer (too long!)
With all of your experience, decide what you want to do and look in that field. If you only need a part time job; a day-care or any recreation centers need teachers of any subject. Denver has a private International School, (you can look it up on the internet.) You may need a Colorado's Teacher Certification, (which can be a hassle.) Many districts (especially, Denver is hiring without Certification, which will eventually be acquired.)
Best regards,
P.
