Seeking Input on Purchase of a Double Jogging Stroller
I am looking to purchase a double jogging stroller for my 2 1/2 yr old (35 inches and 31 lbs)and 2 month old within the next few weeks. I would love to hear what double jogging stollers other moms have liked or would warn against. I'm not a serious jogger- would be using it for daily walking and don't need all the bells and whistles, but something of decent quality. What features and have you mothers found most important? Which brands should be avoided?

Hi--
I bought the In Step double stroller. I love it!! My kids are 4/12 and 14 months and they still fit in it great. It has a swivel wheel on the front--This is a must when pushing 2 kids. It can be locked into place if needed. The seats recline individually and the covers come off so they can be machine washed. The tires are not plastic which is great. the storage baskets on the back are a little small, but they work fine. the best thing is it isn't too expensive. I got mine on amazon for 159.00 with free shipping. I have seen them on Craigs list since then for around 100. I love mine for the price and what I actually use it for is mainly for walks around the neighborhood.

Hi J.,
I am not sure if you would like any other attachments (cross-country skiing, biking, etc), but we have a Chariot and LOVE it! It is the only biking stroller we found that you could have an infant in (not to bike yet, but at least we didn't have to buy two biking/jogging strollers) The things I like about it
1.the front wheels are under the stroller m(so it is more compact feeling) and turn (I didn't like the one stationary wheel in front, but I am not a hard-core runner)
2. the rain cover is awesome...we lived in Vancouver for a year and my son was toasty warm and dry during 2 hour walks...I was sopping wet, but...
The cover is also great for walking in the cold.
3. there is plenty of storage space for running errands or carrying toys to the beach, etc.
4. my 3 year old is very comfortable in it and now my 6 month old daughter likes being in it too (she is in the sling attachment)
5. it fits through all "normal" doors if you take it shopping
We really really just like our stroller!
Things that I would maybe like in a different stroller.
1. I think my kids would like to be separated at times (vs. on the bench seat they are on). Some bigger just jogging stollers (like BOB) have pretty much two separate seats each with their own sun shade and they recline separately (but we have not seen that in a biking/jogging one).
2. a self cleaning stroller...ours is pretty gunked up from the kids being in it so often ;)
Hope that helps a bit even if you are not looking for a bike combo maybe some of my likes/dislikes will give you some things to look into.
Good luck!

Check out www.onestepahead.com for their jog strollers. I had the double for the last 4 years and LOVED it. I just sold it because I only need a single now. I've had the single from the same catalog since March and so far I am loving it as well. It comes in both single and double sizes. It is actually a Babytrend, but it's a special edition made just for One Step Ahead with some extras (rain shield, tire pump etc...). It has a swivel wheel that can be locked and I am really enjoying the easier steering. I can easily steer with one hand. The double sells for $219.95 , plus you can usually find a 15% off coupon code on www.couponcabin.com (I used code "15SAVONE") which brings the price down to about $190. An awesome price for a great quality stroller. I know you can spend $500 on a very fancy stroller, but I personally don't think it's worth it!

I love the Mountain Buggy Urban Double. It is expensive but worth every penny. It has great weight distribution so even with kids of different ages/weights it is the easiest stroller ever to push. It fits through standard size doors which a lot of double jog strollers wont. Really it is just AWESOME!!I got it when my second was born and my first was almost 3 and that was a few years ago and we are still using it now that my 3rd is a baby. It is really well made. I use it mostly for walking to town etc... not for serious jogging

J.,
I don't have any specific brands to recommend - it's been a couple of years since I needed one - however, I would definitely recommend making sure the front wheel turns. I had one that didn't and you had to kind of lift the front to turn a corner. It was awful!!
Good luck!

I got my single jogger at a thrift store for $6!!! The only feature I don't like about it is that the front wheel doesn't swivel. I would get a different one but you can't beat that price with a big stick! Good luck getting back in shape. I have a three month old so I know what you're going through. My 4 year old is too big for the joggers anyway or I might think about getting a new one too.
