Seeking Information About Winnie Palmer Hospital
Hi, I am hoping to get some reviews about Winnie Palmer Hospital. I am 35 weeks pregnant with my 4th child and have delievered at Winter Park Hospital and Florida South. My last experience at Winter Park was not so great, so I would love to hear input from you moms that have delivered at Winnie Palmer. Also, I read about the spa packages and dinner package WPH offers, and I would love to hear your thoughts about those services and if you know the cost of them.
Thanks in advance!

Winnie Palmer routinely separates the mom and baby for 2-4 hours after birth....so if it's important to you not to be separated from your child, this would not be the hospital of choice. That was a big factor for me, as I wanted my son to remain with me or my husband at all times.
I delivered at Winter Park Hospital (WPH) and had my own issues there but it was due to my OB, not completely the hospital. The romantic dinner for two that is offered is a really nice option. I can't remember the price but it wasn't too bad. You can't do this if you have a c-section, only if you have a vaginal birth.
The massages every day at WPH are FABULOUS! They have an on staff massage therapist that specifically works the maternity floor and will offer massages to mom AND dad every day! If you are there before the birth, she will offer massage prior to your delivery day too. (If you have to go in for observation or the day before an induction.) She comes to your room everyday that you are there and offers a massage. If you cannot have a back massage for some reason, she will massage your hands, feet or neck/shoulders. It is a really nice perk.
If you are looking for a hospital that has been classified as "baby friendly" and encourages more natural approaches to child birth, Florida Hospital Altamonte is the best in the area. Winnie Palmer is not designated as a "baby friendly" hospital at this time.

I had a great experience at Winnie Palmer when I had my son there 3 years ago. The staff was great from beginning to end. The nurse assigned to me even answered the phone when she was at lunch and told me she'll call someone to help me and she did. Like most hospitals they checked on the baby and I in the middle of the night but not so often and very quietly so not to disturb us. I have nothing negative to say about my experience. The rooms were very nice to -- almost hotel like.
I didn't get any of the upgrades as I just wanted to spend time either sleeping or holding my baby (I had a 2 y.o. at home too, so this was a vacation for me). As far as food, it's not gourmet, but its not that bad either and there's so much to choose from. I ate Florida Hospital food several times over a 3 year period and WPH food is way better than theirs.

I delivered at Winnie Palmer and I had the most wonderful and amazing experience... Everyone was amazing and for a first time mom and being nervous..i had nothing to worry about...Since I had a c section i couldn't eat food since it was a major surgery but my friends got it and loved it...if you go on a tour of the hospital they will give you a pamphlet on the costs of these extras...i do remember them more costly than i wanted to spend. Winnie palmer is so clean and beautiful and i felt like i was in a hotel..not a hospital...you get your own room and bathroom, your hubby gets his own bed in your room...I can't say enough good things about it...i said i would never deliver at another hospital but then my husband got transferred to boca raton so when i get pregnant again i will have to go somewhere else but don't think i havn't thought about driving up there just to deliver at that hospital- that is how much i loved it...and to love a hospital...its got to be good. that was in 2007 so not sure if its changed in the last 2 years or not but highly doubt it. hope this helps

I delivered @ Winnie Palmer...overall it was a great experience. The delivery nurses are AWESOME, and the weekend nurses in the recovery (regular rooms) were great, although some nurses during the week in the regular rooms weren't so great. Wonderful support overall, and a beautiful, comfortable setting. I don't know if they still have this policy in effect, but you must keep the lights on in your room at all times if the baby is with you. SO ridiculous, and it totally interrupted our sleep while there (I was there for 3 days, since I had a c-section). They got really mad when we turned the lights off at night & yelled at us. But I would still recommend it!!

I delivered my son there last year and was happy with the experience.
The only things that kind of bugged me were this: I was disappointed they only allowed 3 people in the room with me at a time while in labor. I had my husband, doula, daughter and in-laws there and they had to take turns coming in the room. I didn't care for that. Also, the rooms are pretty small. Very nice finishes, but small. As for the light rule, it's true you are supposed to have a light on at all times when the baby is in the room, but I just left the bathroom light on and cracked the door enough to let a little light out. They never said anything to me about it.
As a side note, I delivered my daughter at South Seminole 5 years ago and it was fabulous! They aren't nearly as crowded there so I got constant attention, the rooms were huge, and they let anyone in the room I wanted. Even though it's not brand new like Winnie Palmer, it was way more intimate and comfortable at South Seminole.

I delivered my son at Winnie Palmer 7 months ago and I did have a great experience. All the nurses were great except one and I only needed to let the head of nurse know that I didn't want that nurse back. There were 40 babies born that day and I did have to wait to go in the labor and delivery room for 4 hours but I wasn't in pain or uncomfortable. Just bored waiting. The delivery and recovery was great. The food is really good. I did go on the tour and I suggested u go on the tour to feel more familiar with the hospital. I didn't order the spa packages because I felt weird about that. It wasn't my thing. Overall, it's a very busy hospital but great! I would deliver there again if I have another baby.

I have never given birth at Winnie palmer - but my children have all had to go to Arnold Palmer and I LOVED the service there - so I could imagine what a new mother would receive.
Mommy of 4!!! Way to Go!
I am here if you need anything!
God Bless,
A.

Winnie palmer is awesome. I just delivered there 2 months ago. They are an extremely busy hospital so that it one downside, but my OB and nursing staff were incredible! They were always available to help and give a smile.
