I made these black cat cupcakes, they're regular chocolate cupcakes, frosted, and you put an Oreo standing upright on top of the cupcake for a face (I cut out a little chunk from the top of the cupcake to make it stand up better) use a dab of chocolate icing to "glue" on m&m eyes, black licorice whiskers, and chocolate chip ears on top of the Oreo. You can also use the licorice to stick a tail in the cupcake. You need the peel apart licorice which is kind of hard to find. Last year I ended up cutting my own strips.

I also made hot dogs to look like mummies, you take Crescent roll dough and cut it into thin strips, wrap the strips around a hot dog, (about 1/2 inch around the top, leave about an inch unwrapped, then wrap strips around the rest of the hot dog.) Bake for about 15 minutes then make a face with mustard on the unwrapped part.

Last year I made a batch of rice crispy treats and turned the whole batch into a giant spider (black food color) and used it as the ceter decoration for my table. After the kiddos ate they got to tear the spider apart and eat it. They love the "killing" of the spider part.

Have fun.

(if not already mentioned) Use green food coloring to color water. Fill rubber gloves with green water and freeze. Remove hand-ice-cubes from the gloves and use in punchbowls to keep beverage cold.

Last year I made roast beast (beef) with black gravy (food coloring), orange mashed potatoes (food coloring or carrots mashed into it), and green beans. I served orange punch with it. You can make cookies t6hat look like fingers: roll premade sugar dough into ling strands and cut into sections, make finger joint lines with a tooth pick and make the finger nail with an almond sliver. Youc an serve any red oucnh labeled as Type O blood. You can make spider cupcakes with a ju-jube and black licorace as the legs. Games can be pin the legs ont he spider, nose on the scarecrow, decorate mini gords with stickers and markers. Gift favors can be inexpensive cups from the dollar store decorated with perm. markers :)

We had a Halloween party last year for our kids and their friends and the favorite games were:
1-make a mummy: which is just give them rolls of tp and let them wind it around each other. This is as fun for the adults to watch as it is for the kids doing it
2- my husband sat in a chair in the corner with a deck of tarot cards( I am not sure if they were real or not but they looked good) and told each childs fortune. They were mesmerized
3- bat walk : tape a trail of black crepe paper to the ceiling and using a hand held mirror, each kid takes turns trying to follow the trail just looking down into the mirror. I know it sounds strange but it is really fun and all the kids wanted to do it over and over.
My final advice: don't spend too much effort on food as kids don't eat much at a party and don't really care about it

Every year I make a spider cake. I use a round pan for the body and frost twinkies to make the legs. U can go as big with this as you'd like. I frost it in a black frosting and use red cadies to make a triangle on the back. I found this in parents magazine a few years back. Good luck to U!

Pick up some clear, unpowdered surgical gloves. You can fill them with popcorn or other snacks (using candy corn, of course, for fingernails at the ends of the fingers) and tie off the wrist end. You can also (this looks NEAT) fill them with water, freeze, and float in a punch bowl!

If you can get on the Taste of Home website, they had an issue with lots of fun Halloween recipes and ideas. My favorite idea is to make an orange punch, and I freeze water in 2 plastic gloves and peel the gloves off and put them in the punch bowl. The kids think it's hilarious!

I used this in school last year and the kids loved it.

I bought sm gords (sp?) they looked like mini bowling pins and cut the bottoms flat so they stood up. Bought a few mini pumkins and the kids used them as bowling balls.

To save cash I bought them in the morning of the party (on the 31st).

you could buy one of those plastic cauldrons and toss halloween ish beanie babies into it. like frogs etc.

you could take a piece of poster board and make a spinner and put a diffent number of spider rings (picture or drawing) on each section, if the spinner (pie) was in 6 (pieces) YOu would have one spider, two spiders, three spiders, four spiders, five spiders, six spiders. what ever number the kids get is how many spider rings they get to put on their fingers, when they fill all ten fingers they win. YOu will need at least 20 some plastic spider rings.

bingo with halloween clip art or stickers
Memory Match games with clip are or stickers

There are some fun books you could have available or read to the kids
I know an old lady who swallowed a bat
Piggie pie

Bob for apples Or hang a donught from a string tacked to the ceiling and everyone has to try to eat it with their hands behind their backs.

Ghosts in the graveyard tag if you have lots of space or can go outside

flashlights are fun if you turn off the lights

tattoos or face painting

I'm very into marthastewart.com right now you could look there for decorating ideas too.

Have fun!

Hello S.,
Here is one quick, easy fun thing to do, and several different ages can play. I took small white powdered dounts and tied a string through the hole. I did so with several. Then I tied the other end to a broom stick that had been placed across the backs of 2 kitchen chairs. Basicly, you want the donunts to dangle. Then the "guests" had to try to bit the donuts with out using their hands. So funny. It was a hit.

Have Fun.

O. year at my son's school, they prepared a pumpkin bowl full of cold, cooked spaghetti coated in olive oil and had the kids blindfolded to "dig through the guts" to find small treasures (spider rings, etc.) The kids loved it! You could also do a "bowl of eyeballs" with cold, peeled grapes!

Simply Spooky Punch--- Mix equal parts orange and grape Koolaid (I assume soda would work too) it turns blackish purple!!! For ice cubes...freeze halloween dollar store rings...spider rings. Creepy ...but not too gross for the wee ones.

For food you could make sandwiches with ham salad or cheese spead then use Halloween cookie cutters to cut them into shapes. Also you could make caramel apples and popcorn balls. For games bobbing for apples is always fun. Have fun I love Halloween too.
