Hello, I am getting married on October 17th this year. I am planning on a small, romantic wedding, however, I need ideas on where I can have it. I was thinking a park, with an enclosed building, but I have to call on April 1st, and hopefully get the bldng I want, so I am trying to get a backup place. I don't want to spend alot of money since I am def. on a budget. So if anyone has ideas I am all ears.
Thank you!!!
*****I live in the Twinsburg OH area but I don't need to stay close to the area***

I don't know where you are located, but I had a wonderful wedding ceremony/reception at an expo building in Norwalk, Ohio. The building is large enough to seat over 400 guests, but can be tailored to whatever size you are looking for. In addition, it has a full kitchen and bar area. It cost $250 for the entire day. Tables and chairs were included and we were required to have everything cleaned up by noon the following day. Most of the other places we looked into had to be cleaned up that night. yuck! Good luck. If you would like some more info, just let me know.

A good location with inside/outside options is the Glen Helen building in Yellow Springs. I got married there, and it's really nice, if you like a rustic setting.

My husband and I had our wedding and reception at the Worthington Inn in October five years ago and it was beautiful.

You might try a quaint local inn or bed and breakfast. They might have some locations outside of their establishment where you can hold the ceremony. And maybe a dining room for the reception?

Our idea was that we'd have our wedding day at this beautiful quaint hotel, then have a lovely place to go for anniversaries. But the Worthington Inn has been converted to condos. Pppffftt! ... Oh well.

Congratulations! It's always a beautiful time of year!

If you're in the NE Ohio area...check out Cuyahoga Valley National Park Extraordinary Spaces. I don't know the website offhand, but type it in a search engine and it comes up. The buildings are beautiful and it would be perfect that time of year. You can bring in your own food I think or they have a list of preferred caterers that might be within your budget. Congrats and good luck!

I got married August 31st and had an outside wedding. The weather is usually still great at that time of year. If you can find some sort of a pretty setting you can probably reserve it pretty cheap. Then you would just have to rent chairs of some kind. I love out door weddings. Maybe call around to some churches as a back up location if it rains then...
By the way, I was just looking on craig's list this morning and saw that there was a photographer looking to build her wedding portfolio and therefore was offering FREE wedding photography... just in case you're interested:

You didn't say where you live, so sorry if this irrelevent. I also had an October wedding - I loved it (but had an indoor wedding).

Every year our church has a church picnic at Shoaff Park in Fort Wayne. They have a huge pavillion that I believe can open up to be an open-air space, or close down to be an indoor space. There are two HUGE fireplaces on either end of the pavillion, and it has beautiful exposed beams. There is also a pretty big kitchen and bathrooms in the building. When I was there, I was thinking I would have liked to have known about that space when I was planning my wedding. Of course it is surrounded by the park, so if the weather cooperates and you want to have an outdoor ceremony, it is definitely doable. You'd have great colors, too, since the leaves will be at their peak during that time.

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!!

L....You didn't say where you lived, so I can't give you any specific places. A park is nice, also the backyard of a friend with a big tent. You can also get married in a church. The cost goes up depending on flowers, invitations, etc. A church wedding isn't nessarily expensive, you're going to have to pay a minister anyway. I think the big expense is the food. The more guests the more food you have to furnish. Good luck and a happy life!!!

How about the Old Church on the Circle in Tallmadge? It's beautiful and intimate. I can't remember - is there a gazebo on the square there in Twinsburg...? Maybe something along the river in Chagrin Falls? Congrats!

My cousin had an October wedding and they had someone carve beautiful pumpkin designs in pumpkins, then light them and set them all around the reception all. She also cut the top off a pumpkin and took out the mess, then put autumn flowers in them and used them as centerpieces on some of the tables. Then she took little pumpkins/gourds, acorns and colored leaves (fake) and placed them around on tables too. It was so cool and not too expensive-except they paid some fancy person to carve the pumpkins, but you don't have to do that. Congratulations and have a wonderful life together! A.

I'm not too familiar about where you live, but are there any historical landmarks or museums that allow for weddings/receptions? They may have an outdoor space, plus if they do tours or anything like that its a good alternative to just food and dancing at the reception.

Have you thought of your own backyard? My sister married hubby number 3 in their backyard. She got a tent to cover the sitting area and a space foe their vows. She went crazy with netting and fairy lights (white christmas ones). It was beautiful. They had on week to plan and he did evrything but pick her and his daughter's dresses. Which was a fiasco. She ordered them and they didnot arrive in time to try them on so she had to reoder because they had lost the order. They over nighted them and they didn't fit so she wound up going shopping he morning of the afternoon wedding. She found something but not what she really wanted and the day after the wedding the first shipment of dresses came.
They used a sports photographer and printed their own pixs. A friend made the cake as a gift and flowers were kept to a min. since the yard was full of them. Her best friend is a hair stylist so she did both the girls hair.
Good luck. Ask about your community may have tents they can put up or maybe a church or school nearby the park have tents they could rent you cheaply. St. Rita's school for the deaf rent out theirs for donation. They or a group like them would take whatever you wanted to give. You would have to pick them up and set them yourself.
Good luck we are on 35 years this March 1st. I wanted an outdoor wedding but we moved the wedding up from June to March. There is a park in the Cincinnati park aysyem that has a beautiful Rotunda I wanted to say my vows under it. But when I called they do not allow you to keep others out. So if and I did want to have the reception outside too, well anyone would have to have been allowed to eat. Your not allowed to rope it off. It's a public park.

A park would be absolutely beautiful. We had a Sept wedding at a park and wouldn't have changed it for the world. One thing we did as a back up is we reserved a local American Legion banquet hall. The park we were having our wedding in didn't have a shelter that was completely enclosed though. We have a covered shelter area for the ceremony, but as the date got closer we decided to use the Legion banquet hall for the reception regardless. We had an arbor that my grandmother had bought for us to use as our ceremony... and could have easily used that inside the legion hall.
If your park has an enclosed shelter...you obviously wouldn't need to worry about that though. You could just start calling local American Legions, VFW's, Eagles, AmVet halls in your area. Surprisingly most of them have very nice banquet halls and rent them out to the public for reasonable rates. With these kinds of places you can also use your own caterers or own personal choices on foods & decor. Of course they also allow you to use all of their tables & chairs, typically will allow you to access their kitchen if they have them.... and even rent out their bar (you pay their bartender for the evening & and only for the alcohol that you & your guests consume type thing) Like I said they usually have reasonable rates.... somewhere around the $200 to $300 range for an entire evening... We had access from 2 pm until 1 am.... and they even allowed us to come in the night before to set up for no extra charges. If you, your husband, or even a family member, etc are a member of one of these chapters/ clubs and can rent it for you the rates are even cheaper. My husband is a Veteran so we paid like $75 instead of the $250. Hope this may help. Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

A few more ideaa... a place that will hold enough people for the event, but has an outdoor feeling, like a nature conservatory or a place that has windows for an outdoorsy feeling [make sure photos do not glass reflecting in them] There may be a wooden building, or a civic cente that will fit your budget. I got married in Oct. and my hubby wanted an outdoor wedding because he had seen beautiful ones. I insisted on an indoor wedding and it "rained buckets" that entire day. It would nto have been able to taek place outdoors. Best wishes to you both.

I don't know where you are located or how far you are willing to travel but I got married at a park in Boardman in a beautiful old church. The church had been relocated to the park and fixed up. It was very inexpensive and very beautiful. Maybe there is something like that close to you. Congratulations and good luck planning your wedding. www.boardmanpark.com (the church is on the webpage on the upper left corner)

Hi L.,
One of the most enjoyable weddings i've attended was in October and was held at an Inn in a small, super-quaint tourist destination in Indiana. I was already familiar with nashville, Indiana, but spending time at the Artist Colony Inn wasn't something I had ever done. The wedding was held in a banquet-type room separate from the restaurant there, and it was a real treat to stay right there at the Inn. I confess I have no idea the cost, but this was no extravagant wedding--it just happened to be a delightful place to be because the rooms were terrific and the town was a terrific setting for people to do whatever they wanted--dine, shop, anything. So wherever you are, maybe a B&B or Inn could provide the perfect, affordable backdrop for your wedding! Good luck!

I had a friend that married at an orchard. She had a very tight budget yet the ceremony turned out to be wonderful! Also, another fun idea if you enjoy wine, might also consider a winery or tasting room. Have experienced a ceremony at one, also very lovely!!! Good luck and Congratulations.

Try some local churches--I know some will allow you to use a fellowship hall for low cost AND have gazebos/picnic shelters for an outdoor ceremony, if you desire. October weather can be so unpredictable though. Also, it may be more expensive, or not, but try asking your local preservation society. Some of the small town historical societies will allow use of special buildings for just a small donation. Twinsburg is NE Ohio, right?
