When my daughter turned 13, we rented a hotel suite. The hotel had an in-door pool and she invited 3 girls. We ordered pizza and had it delivered to the pool area. I also had a friend who made cakes. She made the most beautiful carosel cake. Almost looked like a wedding cake. After the girls watched movies and we popped popcorn in the microwave. They had a blast.

My daughter turned 13 in November and we celebrated with a homemade cake, she knows I hardly ever cook so she was surprised! She decided she wanted big gifts so she only invited a couple of friends over. I took them to dinner at our fave restaurant and then a movie(TWILIGHT)which came out on her bday. She was so excited! The girls stayed over had cake and icecream they played board games gave each other facials did their nails and pedicures and watched another movie at home the rest of the night. My husband and I sat with her and had a talk about responsibilites as you get older. We decided to open her a bank account with her very own check card and she was so excited when she made her first deposits (birthday money). Now she can't wait to do extra chores around the house to get money to deposit.

My 13 year old has had a party at the beach for the last four years. We rent a cabin for a weekend, take 4 or 5 girls, another mother to help me keep an eye on them and have a blast! Leave Fri. afternoon after school, they swim and do beach things, I usually cook spaghetti the first night, we order pizza the second. I bring stuff for breakfast and lunch. Bring lots of movies and sun screen. I have some back up plans if it rains- a cabin on the beach is still kinda fun in the rain but I know which movies are on in the little beach town nearby- just in case. The only real cost is the cabin...and we go to Quintana Beach County park near Freeport- not too pricey. She's a Sept birthday so it is still warm enough but not too crowded.
For my January birthday I have taken 3 friends to the Marriott in Sugar Land where we live and gotten a room for the night. We walk around the square, eat dinner and dessert and then get a pay per view movie to watch in the room. The 4 girl get the 2 queen beds abd I get the roll away. They loved being able to run around the empty square late at night- I video taped them dancing in front of City Hall at midnight! And then we had room service before we came home the next day. Lots of fun! And I don't bother with party favors at this age. They don't care.

Of course a sleep over is always great. Show the movie, "13 going on 30". Let them learn the dance from the movie, then record it..You can give each girl a copy of the DVD with all of them performing the dance.
Take them somewhere a little fancier for a really nice dinner. Or have a fancy dinner at your house and hire college guys and gals to serve.
Take them on a camping trip, with ghost stories and smores.
Take them Tubing on the river with a big picnic at the end.
Take them to Gruene Hall for dinner and music. Call them to see who is playing. I was there once and there were kids there with their parents dancing.
In Austin the kids would LOVE to have a party at Schlitterbahn. I am assuming your kids are tired of it?
FYI, I have discovered that 13 year olds love the "Visa" gift cards (HEB) sells them. I gave one to my nephew and one to a neighbor who turned 13, they both LOVED them. My niece asked if I would please remember to give her one when she turns 13.

I had a roller skating party for my 13th. But I might suggest a slumber party. They are fun for that age girl.
Rent movies, get stuff and let them do facials, manicure/pedicure.
Have each girl bring a shirt, pants, etc. and get a couple of bedazzlers and studs and let them decorate their clothes.

Hello L.,
I am a Senior Beauty Consultant. In the past my friends have asked me to come to their house for their daughters birthdays. I give them a free facial, free hand and lip pampering. With the facial I teach them how to start taking care of their skin. At this age naturally their bodies are changing and pimples start coming out. It's important for them to learn how to take care of their skin now. Then my friends in the past have bought a lip gloss or Satin Lips Set for each girl. Then since they are already to go since having their facial and light makeup applied they have taken them out to dinner or to a movie and then they usually have a sleepover. I live in Spring. Give me a call if you should need my services. ###-###-####
God Bless,
Annie

One idea is to have a Beading Party. String Me Along Party offers beading parties for girls 5+ (and adults.) They bring the supplies to your house and help the girls create their own jewelry to take home with them. It takes around 2 hours and the girls leave with their own creation. If you are interested, there's more info at www.stringmealongparty.com.

For my youngest daughter's 13th birthday we had a movie party. I set up the dining table like a movie theater candy counter with popcorn in movie popcorn buckets (you can get them at a party store or World Market), twizzlers, etc...They got to goof around while everyone arrived and then she opened her gifts and cut the cake. After that they all crowded around the TV and we put in the movie (Disturbia, which was just grown up enough to be sort of scary but all the parents were still cool with it) and they watched (and screamed along) with it. All the kids had a great time and it made for a nice way to end the party. Kids talked all year about what fun her party was (and none of them seemed to mind that they were all crowded around a 27" TV).
