I am not sure that you will be able to find a house in that price range in a safe neighborhood. My sister is renting a 2 bedroom 1 bathroom in Torrance and it is $2000. I am renting a 2 bedroom 1 bathroom in Lomita at $1700. The house around the corner for me went up for rent (3bedrooms, 2 bathrooms) and it was $2700.
I know there are some apartments in that price range. Good luck!

What is your employement and credit history like? Ideal length of stay? (1yr? 2-5 yrs?)
My parents have one house in Hawthorne for SALE (we're thinking about taking it OFF the market for a year or so..)It's a 3 bed. 2 bath with a LARGE backyard, single car garage and 2 barn style sheds in the backyard.(GREAT PLAYROOMS or scrapbooking area?.. totally insulated with electricity!)
We also have another home in Lawndale. My sons father is currently living there. (planning on moving in near future?) It's on a quarter acre. HUGE backyard! Only one house on the property. 3 bed/2 bath fireplace and 2 car garage. 3 metal shed for storage in backyard, enclosed patio and cute TREE house.
