Seeking Hospitals That Will Do VBACS (Vaginal Birth After C-section)

I am a certified doula in Beaverton, OR. I know that OHSU will allow VBACs, and they have great midwives at the Center for Women's Health (on the OHSU campus). I would highly recommend Polly Malby, CNM, but any of the midwives are great. Also, some of the Kaiser doctors/midwives will allow VBACs. You would need to speak to them to find out which ones. I work in an OBGYN billing office, and I have never heard of an insurance company refusing to cover a vaginal birth after a
c-section. Inusurance companies prefer vaginal deliveries, due to the fact they are less expensive to pay. The first question is why did you have a c-section in the first place? Does that reason play a role in the refusal? What insurance carrier do you have? And who told you it wasn't covered? I talk to insurance companies everyday, and if someone isn't telling me information that I feel is accurate, I hang up and call right back. 9 times out of 10, the first customer service rep gave me false information. I would suggest trying to call again. Ask for a supervisor if need be.
I just ran this past my coworkers, and noone else has ever heard of this happening.

I had my son 12 months ago by csection as well. Now me and my husband is looking to have another baby sometime this year. But after the tramatizing pain and emotional distress of having two csections with both of my children made me realize that now i am incapable of having a natural birth. But after alot of research i found it very intresting that midwives can deliver your baby at your convenience at your own home. With no doctors pressure or any nurses walking in and out to check your vitals. With the midwives they do just as much as the other M.D's that practice. Not only do they do the same thing but your able to have your aby natural and if in any event something goes wrong there is always 911 for emergency. So try looking up midwives in your area.

First of all, you need to discuss your personal health history with a qualified professional. If your OB doc feels that it will be safe for both you and your future child to attempt a VBAC, then you should be ok with your future plans. I work with OBGYN docs at Kaiser (I have heard all the horror stories, so please don't judge my opinion based on my employer) and none of them would allow a VBAC without knowing your full history and seeing the operative reports from your c section. Kaiser allows VBAC, if it is safe for both mother and baby. Either way that you deliver, it should not take away from the fact that you are the mother of that new child. A c section does not make you a bad mom.

Yes I know of two places that will do VBAC's! I am a local birth doula, and I just finished a GREAT VBAC at OHSU. Also, if you are looking for a differnt experience I have another suggestion.
