I'm not sure whether or not he's knowledgeable in homeopathics, but my kids pediatric dentist in Elgin has been very open to conversation about alternate options. I'm a chiropractic physician myself and am pretty picky about my healthcare providers. You might try calling:

Here is a link for a listing of Mercury-free dentists in IL. I have gone to Dr. Kevin Boehm in Hoffman Estates. They were very good with my kids there, and they do not use fluoride. If you also do a google search on holistic dentist IL, you should be able to find some other info about dentists you can try. That was what I searched to find that directory. Hope this helps.
