Seeking Hobby While at Home

You could do crosses with glass mosaic tiles from Hobby Lobby.
Soapmaking is also fun and easy with melt and pour soaps. I made some for family six years ago, and they still keep my gift beside their sinks. They thought they were too pretty to use. I got olive oil glycerin soap from Hobby Lobby as well, melted in a double pan boil, added fragrance oils and colorants, poured into molds and let harden.

I personally LOVE making hair bows. There are lots of free instructions online. I have some if you decide to do it. I give lots of bows for presents for my friends little girls. Just a thought! If I can do it, I know anyone else in the world can.

Hi L. - I just HAD to respond :) I'm guessing your little one is an excellent sleeper? Well, thank the heavens for that! You are a lucky mommy!

I make coasters out of wine labels (ideally for Christmas presents, but that hasn't happened for last two - maybe I need to ask you about time mgmt tips!)

**You need 4x4 tiles (try not to buy them from Home Depot, although this is the easiest option, it's not the cheapest). Some places will sell you or give to you broken cases of tile / leftovers from old jobs / etc.

**Wine labels soaked off and dried out

**Decoupage (spelling?) from craft stores

**Felt squares glued to the bottom of tiles

i started making necklaces. they're so pretty and easy to make. i bought all my materials at walmart and they even have how-to books on how to make them with ideas etc. i gave one to my sister in law for her bday. they're in the aisle with beads and pendants.

My addiction is making, buying, selling, sharing scale miniatures-- as in dollhouse size--as in fine, delicate adult toys. If you are not familiar with this, drop into a miniatures shop called Through the Keyhole at Preston Rd and Forest Lane in N. Dallas. Fun is available at all levels of talent, cost and interest.
I belong to a club that meets once a month. The back room is available at the Keyhole to get together on our projects and they offer classes.

I love Cross stitch. I make wall hangings and sweat shirts with it. Any craft store can get you started.

I have to second the reccomendation of checking into the craft stores - they not only have a lot of supplies, but they offer classes.

I felt the same way back when my oldest kids were very small and taught myself how to knit.

I love to make things too. I would say start with something you are good at, can you sew? paint? digital work on computer? baking? blogging? and decide how much you want to spend on supplies, do you want one long project or something you do quickly?
Here are some of the things I make or have made or do as a hobby, and I learned it all online:
glass tile pendants, soldered pendants, hair bows, bandanna dress, purses, tutus, felt boards and story pieces, ear rings and other jewelry, cakes and cookies, refinish furniture, vegetable garden, felt birthday party invites, felt puppets, candles, soaps, photo books, paintings, painted wood items (they have several fun things at hobby lobby and michaels to paint).
www.etsy.com is one of my favorite sites because you can get so many ideas there and you can buy hard to find supplies as well.

My SIL makes doilies...some type of crochet, I have no idea.

She is great at it and usually gives them as gifts. I have the ones she made for us saved for our daughter.

When we built this house, she made one with our last name and framed it.

Beautiful handiwork. She also makes special handmade blankets newborns.

My most current hobby phase is Stampin' Up! With the supplies you can make handmade cards, scrapbooks, notebooks, and much, much more. I recently finished my children's scrapbooks, all 20 years per child. Every year I make a handmade papercraft (ornaments, notebooks, bookmarks, clipboards) for my neices and nephews and they think it is so cool that I make it for them. They take my creations to school and show off to all of their classmates and teachers. If you are in the Allen area, you can join me at a class to see if you enjoy it.

I personally Like Quilting. Making quilts for people, however, it can be addicting on buying fabric. I get most of it at Walmart. Should you want to learn let me know. I can tell you how or even show you depending on the are you live in. I find it very relaxing and fun to do. Good Luck.
