My baby is having poop that is hard and her butt bleeds. I'm not sure on what to do. I have gone to the doctors. I have tryed apple jucie, corn syrup, fiber foods, water, and prunes. I have her on a stool sotfener now. I'm having to give her 1 1/2 table spoon everyday. It is working but I don't feel like it is heathy for her to be taking.

What can I do next?

I wrote this to another mother with the same issue.... My 20 month old daughter has had the same issue for seems like forever now....... she would take huge hard BM's and it was the saddest thing ever. I didn't know what to do she would just scream and cry, and hold it in and finally when she couldnt hold it any longer she would shake and it was just the worst thing. It helped if I put a little Vaseline down there so it would slide out easier. A big spoonful of Flaxseeds in her oatmeal worked for a little while, she wouldn't really drink too much prune juice. The Dr. told me I could put a spoonful of Benefiber in her juice, but that never even really helped. So now I found the best thing that works for her is Aloe Vera juice mixed in with her normal Green Juice, and BEANS. She loooooooves beans, and that has seemed to work the best so far. Chile beans are the ones she likes the most. As for the rash I also found a zinc-oxide cream worked the best, and I just let her run around the back yard on warm days with no diaper at all just to get some fresh air to the area. Good Luck!

How old is your baby? Is she formula fed at all? When my kids were little and still being formula fed I used to give a drink of water before every feed , over the day they probably drank around 3-4oz and this helped to keep the stools softer. Even as a child my son still suffers in that department and I have to give him miralax from time to time to help. If she suffers this way a lot then giving those things you listed only when she is constipated won't really help , you would need to make sure that she has some water often plus fruits that are not binding.

my son had this problem too and it ended up being a milk allergy so we switched him to a hypoallergenic formula, and his stool is soft now.

We gave my little one organic gerber baby food prunes (plums) - about three big spoonfuls every day for about 9 mnths until she regulated herself. It worked like a charm. You have to do more or less based on your babies system.

My daughter was chronically constipated from the time she was 6 months old. She is now 8 years. What I think is a major cause was the antibiotics she was on several times as an infant for ear infections. All of the stuff you are doing will help a little bit, but you need to get her tummy back into balance. Find a good naturopath or herbalist who can help you counteract the negative effects of any medicines she has had. I did note really get a handle on this until my girl was 7, poor thing. If you can't find a professional, at least try giving her a good probiotic from a health food store that is appropriate for babies. Good luck

What works for my son ( same issue) is flax oil daily and fish oil once or twice a day. Both organic. We also give him blended organic blueberries when he's really blocked. Works great. He only gets a few bites of banana as a real treat if he already had a soft stool. Stay away from bananas! Good luck.

How old is she?
My daughter had this when she first started solids. I felt so bad until I started to give her a bit of prune juice. My son, however, didn't go thru this as I was a bit more aware the second time around. He had a steady diet of yogurt(yo-baby and Activia when he was closer to 1-year) mixed in with his cereal, as well as fruits and veggies(my daughter ate that too but I really credit the yogurt for him having softer poops).

Since you have tried everything, it is time to take her to see her doctor as something else might be going on.
Good Luck!

Sounds like you've tried all the usual remedies. Perhaps you should have her tested for allergies. I had no idea that one of the signals of an allergy is constipation because the body is not able to process that certain food. Found this out when we discovered my daughter was allergic to corn and peanuts. Removing those items from her diet made the constipation disappear.

Good luck!!

Hi, J.:
Get some Hyland Vit. C 5 mg tabs from your health food store or order it on line.
Start with 2 tabs once a day and see how that works.
If too much. Give one tab once a day. If not enough, give 3 tabs once a day.
Good luck.

How old is your baby? My son was like this and ultimately the corn syrup worked but it was only if I did the perfect amount religiously. Depending on how old your baby is, you need to try an enema first, then put 1 to 2 tablespoons in your baby's drinks - ALL of her drinks - ALWAYS. Then cut out rice, noodles, bananas, cheese or anything that could stop her up. Give her extra veggies, extra fruit (except bananas) and extra water. I even put half milk, half water, or if she is on formula, do one less scoop of formula and add extra water (don't forget the corn syrup EVERY time).

It took me about a month to figure out the right combo for my son then he never had the problem again. So the key is to start with the enema to get her cleaned out then find the right mix of food and corn syrup that works for her little body. Don't be afraid to go a bit extreme, her problem is extreme. Also, keep in mind that her age will play a part in what you give her and don't give her.

Good luck!

I had preemie twins that had a milk allergy which pretty much tore up their intestines and let to a chronic condition my doctor calls hyperactive colon. Basically their bodies take too much moisture out of their stool before they can pass it, and it get's hard really fast... They have been on Miralax stool softener (about a tablespoon a day) ever since. Now they are 12 years old and still take their daily dose, but I haven't had to increase the amount as they've grown. I keep thinking they'll outgrow the effectiveness of the dose size I'm giving them but every so often we'll forget to dose for a few days in a row and they get constipated. They are both great eaters, fruits, veggies, whole grain, lots of fluids. They're both athletes, competitive swimmers, and seem to have suffered no ill effects from long use of the product. While they are less dependent on it than they were as little ones, I think they'll always have something of an issue. The doctor assures me Miralax is harmless as long as they drink plenty of fluids. If the stool softener your using is not Miralax or a similar product, ask your dr. about giving it a try.

I always heard that apple juice can be constipating....but pear always worked like a charm for my son. You can mix it half and half with prune juice too. Not sure how old of a baby we're talking about....
