Seeking Help for Transportation of My Son in La Grange Area

My son is 3 1/2 years old and needs to start speech therapy through our school distrct at our public elementary school for a half hour two times a week.(In La Grange) My problem is that both I and my husband work full time and are not able to take him. He goes to a local private pre school that also provides his day care. The school district does not provide bus service. I have tried to contact transportation services for kids (WEE CARE etc.) None of them provide service to our area. All of our extended family live out of state. I really need something dependable. Some people I have talked to would like to help but can't consistantly be available or are caring for their own kids and would not be reliable if their kids get sick/make appointments/go on vacation etc. I am going to ask at our church as well but I am not too hopeful as several moms have voiced their opinions in a bible class that they felt it was selfish to be a working mom...wish I had the option not to be one. We would like to pay for a dependable service. Anyone know of one? Would really appreciate some suggestions.

Thanks for all of the suggestions and help. None of the taxi/transportation services would provide service to our area. I was able to find a private speech therapist that is willing to travel to his current school/day care and provide his therapy there. It's unfortunate we were not able to take advantage of our school districts services but we just need to get him the help he needs. It should work out well. Plus we will continue to give him his therapy during summer break when the school services would also break for summer. Thanks again.

hi! i would like to help but i don't live near you. BUT you should'nt let anyone make you feel guilty about working outside your home. i think people may say things to make themselves feel better. it is a choice, and you should be confident with it. and no one should make you feel guilty! good luck!

Wow--I'm sorry to hear that people at your church expressed those narrow minded opinions! I work part time and live in La Grange. I also have a three year old. I would be happy to help out in some kind of carpool arrangement if you can't get any other service. Sorry I don't have any better suggestions! I work on Tuesdays and Thursdays...but am flexible the other days of the week. Sounds like you a in a bit of a bind. Let me know if I can help. I'm happy to lend some neighborly support!

Does your child attend day care or have a babysitter?? This can't be a unique situation. If he's at a local daycare, maybe they have some ideas??

It is really sad to hear that school can't help anything. I believe if Your son needs terapy, You could try to find somebody in the evenings, or coming terapist to Your house. I can give You my friend's, who is taxi driver, phone, try to call her and ask about prices, I know that she sometimes drives kids to and back to preschool. Maybe it will be not too expensive. I too sympathize with your situation. Do NOT let narrow mind people let you feel inferior for what you do.

My son will be starting speech therapy soon as well, but at home(at least that is what they had told me). Could you ask them if it would be possible to provide the therapy where he is most at during the day? Maybe looking into another therapy program outside the school district that will accomodate your schedule and needs is better, if possible. Good Luck with everything.
