No panic, but tomorrow call the dentist. If you rub in it, does it bother her? It sounds like a tooth is coming..

Never panic! Never worry! Those are not helpful in the least!

If you are concerned, call your dentist.

I hate it when people say, "Should I worry?" I want to say, "Why? What possible good could come from worrying?" The truth is, no good will ever come from sitting still and obsessing about how potentially bad something could be. If you think it could be bad, talk to someone who can help. But worrying accomplishes nothing.

I'm not sure what it is... It could be a canker sore, erupting tooth, maybe she cut her gum a bit and has some infection, maybe that spot is just irritated... It could be any number of things. I would call her dentist or pediatrician, describe what's going on, and follow their advice.

Could it be a tooth coming in? That can cause a bump long before it erupts.

Welcome to mamapedia!

Is your child's gums bleeding?
Is it raised?
Is she running a fever?
Is it the length of her teeth line?
how long has it been there??

Personally? I would call my dentist or oral surgeon and have them take a look at it. My first instinct is gingivitis but that's usually RED and swollen.

I wouldn't panic, but I'd make an appointment with a dentist.

Could be any of several types of mouth sores, or a tooth coming in possibly? Don't panic - just call the dentist on Monday. If you have a decent camera on your phone and this is in a location where you can get a good view of it (maybe with someone else holding her lip out of the way), can you take a photo and send it to the dentist's office? They may be able to give you advice over the phone about whether or not you need to come in. But no I wouldn't panic. These things are hardly ever urgent.

Salt water sounds like a good thing to do but don't freak her out so much that she doesn't want the dentist or anyone else looking in there should she need to be seen.

If it doesn't hurt, that is good news. The only thing that it may be that would need treatment is an abcess. Otherwise...it could be a tooth coming in :) I would call the dentist tomorrow to check it out...but don't worry!

I would call the dentist on Monday morning and ask what it could be, and whether or not they want to take a look at it. I'd also call her pediatrician, maybe you could get some answers from the nurse line.

Hi L.,

Nobody has mentioned that it could be a sensitivity to her toothpaste...or shes brushing too hard and irritating it. If she's using fluoride, it could be a reaction...

Just a thought....

Call the dentist in the morning and let them know she needs an X-ray to rule out an abscess. If it "is" an abscess she needs antibiotics right away. The infection can go to her brain or her heart and be fatal so make sure she takes the meds if she gets any.
