My family and I are moving to Charlotte on July 1st. My daughter will turn one on August 9, and we will need to find a pediatrician who accepts Aetna before then. Does anyone know of a great pediatrician who is truly supportive of breastfeeding and may have a somewhat holistic approach? I will look into all suggestions. Thanks in advance!

What can I do next?

My daughter is 7 months old and we see Dr. Benonis at Eastover Pediatrics. I love this group. They are associated with Presbyterian Hospital, where we delievered and loved it. They are very, very supportive of breastfeeding with two RNs that are lactation specialists on staff. It is a large group, but we feel like it is a team. http://www.eastoverpediatrics.com/ My OB is Dr. Woods at Midtown OBGYN and they are also with Presbyterian and are holistic. Welcome to Charlotte!

Hey T., not sure which area of Charlotte you are moving to, but in South Charlotte (Blakeney area) I LOVED Kids First pediatricians off of Ardrey Kell. The doctor we went to was Dr. Matt Samarel, and my daughter loved him and so did I. He listens very well and always made me feel like he trusted my parenting. He was great with my daughter, who is 2 and already a bit scared of doctors! I lived right down the street but even if I had moved to another area of Charlotte I would have kept going there. Here's their website.

My son doesn't go to this pediatrician, but all of my friends who were looking for a ped that was support of BF, who are anti or delayed vax, and want more of a holistic approach settled on one pediatrician...Dr. Smoak at Charlotte Pediatric Clinic. The whole practice itself would not really be what you are looking for...just this one doctor. I have heard time and time again moms sing his praises. I hop you are find exactly what you are looking for!

Welcome to NC!! Will you be living in Charlotte or in one of the surrounding areas? If you will be in Charlotte, go to the Carolinas Medical Center website and you can check out all of the pediatricians in the CMC system. www.carolinas.org OR www.carolinasmedicalcenter.org You are blessed to be moving to an area with such a wonderful children's hospital. The Levine Children's Center is located on the campus of CMC in downtown Charlotte. I hope that you never have to use it but it's good to know that it is there if you do.
You could also go to www.presbyterian.org which is associated with Presbyterian Hospital.
I do know some great pediatricians in Union County but I am not sure if that is convenient for you. Union County is just east of Charlotte. A lot of people who work in Charlotte, live in Union County because of the lower taxes, great schools and quieter living.
God bless you and I hope that you love it here!! (I'm a transplant from SC.)

Hey T.-

I grew up in Baltimore and have now rooted in Charlotte; i am curious as to what part of town you will be on when in Charlotte! I would be happy to meet you and Lilly out for bagels and coffee one morning.
I am an OTR/L- and after a long career and am now a full time SAHM.
Most MD's will accept AETNA; most will 1000% support breastfeeding; and i am still searching for the "somewhat holistic" approach myself.
Best to you and yours-
S.

T.,

Dr. Andrew Gunter with University Pediatrics is excellent. My brother had to premature daughters and was very pleased with him, and I followed suite with having him as my son's doctor. I must be honest he stays busy, but he takes the necessary time with you and your child--I never feel rushed or as if he doesn't care. The number is ###-###-####.
