we have 2 children and we don't have involved grandparents, is there anyone else in this situation? what did you do? is there such a thing as adopt a grandparent locally here in los angeles or orange county, ca? thanks, I'd appreciate the feedback
contact your local nursing home or senior living centers/ many people would love to have a little adoptive family!
There is an organization called "AARP"

It is a senior citizen organization and they also do a lot of community and mentoring programs.
Try looking them up.
They may have a grandparent type program...

In Portland, OR there is an organization named Project Linkage. They do have an adopt a grandparent program. They also provide rides and shopping for the elderly or shut in thru a volunteer program as well as counseling programs. They manage volunteers fora reading program in schools.
You could look in the phone book or on the Internet for organizations that provide services to the elderly. Also try connecting with a volunteer organization and ask. If you google volunteer and your city or county name you will probably get a resource for finding volunteers.
I am in the same boat. One set lives far away, the other just isn't involved. I remember when I was little we had an adoptive grandparent thing through my school. We went to an assisted living place. You may try calling a local one and seeing if there might be a couple that would be interested.
Oh, I'm feel so sad after reading your post. Definitely try assisted living type facilities. My grandmother recently moved to one & everyone LOVES when I bring my kids in. I'm sure they could help you. Many older folks get forgotten about when they move to certain facilities, it's heartbreaking. This could be a win-win situation!
