Seeking Good Vet in Pgh/surrounding Area for My Kitty

looking for very knowledgable vet - someone who is more cautious - takes better safe than sorry approach - do all you can - sensitive to the fact that he is my fur baby and that this is all very emotional - lots of health problems over the years and no one seems to be able to identify exact problem and then treat it - thanks!

What can I do next?

Hi Rene',

The Humane Society is a wonderful place to start; we adopted to kitties from there. One of our kitties had an ulcerated eye. The vet opted to do eye drops for 8 weeks, nurse her back to health, see her every week, etc...instead of removing her eye. The emergency clinic we had to bring her to after hours was quick to do that and we waited for a second opinion. from the HS. She has healed beautifully since, with minimal scarring in her eye.

There is also North Allegheny Vet Hospital in the North Hills on Perry Hwy, but I'm not sure if you are out that way.
Dr. Lisa Macom is the one to see. We just love her.

Good luck in your search and let me know, ok? We are huge fur lovers! ;0)

I have been happy with my vet, Dr. Ruben at the Bridgeville Animal Hospital, although the usual kitty kidney failure is all I have challenged her with so far. But, she is usually recommending further testing and treatment than I agree to, since my cat is 18 and I am trying to be "reasonable" with treatment options. I have heard, if you want the best of the best, to go to OSU. Being a Michigan grad, it's hard for me to recommend them, but I have heard they have the best Vets and the best equipment.

I have had very good luck with Brush Run Vet clinic. They are across the street from the Dairy Bar in Venetia,Peters Twp. The staff is super friendly and the doc has good advice. I have taken my three cats there for the past 4 years. When one of my cats was very sick, one of the assistants even came in her days off (i was out of town on business) to check on Syd. They are very loving.
###-###-#### is their number. good luck with your furbaby!

Dr. Mike Hutchinson at Animal General in Cranberry. May be a bit out of the way, but he and his fellow vets are great! He's the vet that is always on KDKA and takes calls from viewers.

I live in Penn Hills now, and still continue to take my animals there when they're due for a checkup or fall ill.

As a 'mommy' of a cherished fur-baby myself, I give my whole-hearted recommendation to Thornwood Veterinary Hospital, located on Rt. 60 off the Crafton exit of I-79. Dr. Schuerger and his wonderful staff have been providing outstanding care to our pets since I was a little girl. They have given the most extensive care to our almost 16 y.o. kitty, for most of her life (we lived out of state for a few years and returned here when she was 4), through good health as well as a variety of illnesses including digestive problems, kitty's stress symptoms resulting from my watching a small child in our home, as well as the more serious - hyperthyroid and diabetes. Each time he has been on top of the most up to date options, as well as the tried and true; a couple of times has even excused himself and come back moments later with information for me freshly printed from the internet to further explain a course of treatment or something else he was recommending. And yet, he does all this at what I consider a very reasonable rate, with tons of compassion both from him and from his competent, kind staff. He is very cautious with kitty's needs, but also sensitive to her comfort - in other words, he doesn't put her through needless testing, but does not hesistate to recommend we do something he thinks will get to the bottom of the problem. He's also sensitive to the knowledge and background of the client and always will explain things such that I understand them as best I can, being neither too technical nor too 'shallow'. Their office number is ###-###-####. Please let me know if you have any questions about them - I'll be glad to answer! Good luck!!!

Northern Pike Animal Hospital in Monroeville. They tell you how it is and they don't try to milk your money out of you. I used them as a second opinion for my cat. I believe that the other vet knew my cat had leukemia and was going to die but kept having us bring him in for uneeded treatments.

Dr. Barbara Smith - she does not have an office. She comes right to your home so that things are easier on your animals!
