I also take my son to Tots and Tykes, the University location, and Dr Poquiz is the primary doctor there although he has a couple of younger doctors under him. They have all been pretty nice whenever I've gone in there.
In the same building there is another office, and I will tell you NOT to go there under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. The doctor we were seeing there was named Dr Toyya Kinsey. This woman was HORRIBLE. My son was taken by C-section 4 weeks early, and has always been small, on the bottom of those infuriating thrice cursed growth charts. She was on me from day one to "fatten him up". When he was 9 months old she chewed me out for not having him on solids, but he was firmly loyal to breastfeeding and showing no interest whatsoever in baby foods. She called ECI on me to get me feeding him. He ate for a while then rejected it again. But he was chubby, active, happy, alert and healthy, so I didn't worry about his size since he seemed very healthy for the size he was. A couple of checkups later she was still on me about his size. He seemed to eat well, and I was offering him healthy choices, not junk food. She seemed suspicious and all but accused me of starving him which I would NEVER do. I never left her office one time that I wasn't in tears on the way home. The final time I saw her, the final straw, I lost my composure with her and told her I was feeding him, he seemed to be eating well, I was offering him healthy foods, he seemed to love the things he ate, and that I couldn't FORCE feed him which she all but told me to do. I remarked sarcastically, that it wasn't like I was feeding him McDonald's, in reference to the healthier foods I was giving him. She told me "You should. He needs the fat" I was flabbergasted. I know young children need fats for brain development, and I cooked with real butter and olive oils so I knew that the food he was getting did have healthy fats in them. It stunned me that a doctor would advocate junk food over healthy foods, just to get him higher up on a stupid chart. When I balked, she warned me that if I refused to follow her recommendations, that she would have to call CPS on me because he was falling off the chart and was in "Failure to Thrive" even though he was clearly energetic and healthy and very happy.
I left there and never went back. I walked straight down the hall, still shaking with rage, and asked at Dr Poquiz' office if they were taking medicaid patients and they were. I signed my son up with them and have never looked back.
