Seeking Doula and Classes Glendale/silverlake/hollywood/beverly Hills.

Looking for recommendations for a great doula.
I am looking for someone comfortable with homebirth, but is hospital savvy. She needs to be a strong birthing advocate for me and partner, as well as an educator.
I am hoping for a low intervention birth. I was present at the homebirth of my sister's second child (in Tacoma, Washington) and a homebirth was my first choice. BUT my partner and I are in the process of moving, so we have chosen a hospital delivery.
Let me know who you've used, where you birthed and what/who you would or would not recommend.
Thank You!

I gave birth to my second baby girl at home in South Pasadena. I did not have a doula, but I would highly recommend one. The only reason I didn't use a doula was because I worked with a great midwife with 2 great assistants. My midwive's name is Diane West. She had me go through Hypnobirthing classes which were taught this lady who is also a doula. I've heard great things about her. I forgot her name but if you contact Diane (____@____.com), she'll know. By the way, I had an amazing birthing experience and would do it again in a hearbeat. I'm excited for the path you have chosen. You'll do wonderfully.

Hi there,
Congratulations on your baby!!! So exciting.
I got my doula from www.bellywomen.net I liked her alot and she helped me have the drug-free birth that I wanted.
I also took HypnoBabies home study class and it was awesome. I joined the HypnoBabies yahoo group and there was so much information and advice on many topics: homebirth, waterbirth, birthing centers, midwives/doulas, etc.

Best of Luck with whatever you choose. You will have the birth that you want and work for! Congratulations again.

Hi!

I would recommend taking a Bradley childbirth education class. It is very helpful in preparing you for low or no intervention birth. I've heard it's much better than the typical Lamaze class. I took the class from Kathleen Killebrew in La Canada (____@____.com) and although I was induced, I was thrilled to still have the natural delivery I hoped for. I think there is one in Silverlake too, different instructor.

Good luck!

I used Yvonne Novak - I think she lives in Santa Clarita, but was willing to work with me (I live in Burbank). I believe she also offers classes. Her website is www.doulawithlove.com. I think she may be a bit pricier than average, but I would have been clueless in the hospital without her!

Hi A.,

My name is S. Hardy. I am a certified birth doula. I would love an opportunity to talk with you more. When I was pregnant with my son, I took an amazing natural childbirth class from mid-wife Jana Wernor owner of Supported Birth (see www.supportedbirth.com). I was fortunate to have had a wonderful and fast water-birth. After all that I learned and experienced, I took on the mission of helping other women birth naturally, and became a certified doula through Supported Birth. I can be reached at ____@____.com for more information.

Hi A.,
My doula doesn't do birth services but I just wanted to wish you luck. I had a doula and a doula in training for my daughter's birth and it was a wonderful experience. I am so grateful for the support I had. Good luck to you and your family. Also, I delivered at Glendale Adventist Medical Center under the care of Selena Lantry, OB-GYN. She was friends with my doula. Very motherly. Again, best wishes:)

We took a class at Golden Bridge Yoga. my daughter was frank breech and I ended up planning a section...Their pre-natal classes are awesome and focus on natural family living. My hubby used to beg me to go because I was so calm afterwards!!
