Seeking Diet Help!!

Hello! Is there anyone out there who could give me a lead on a good weightloss supplement? I don't know what else to do. I need to lose 15 pounds. It used to be so easy for me but now I can't get it off!! I started exercising every day and eating 1200-1400 calories a day but nothing is working. I look horrible!! I am only 5' tall so an extra 10 pounds on me sends me to go buy new clothes! And, it's not fun when the sizes keep getting larger! So, if anyone has any advice on an over-the-counter supplement that has worked for you, I'd appreciate it if you'd share it with me!! Thanks a bunch!!

Someone mentioned Weight Watchers already, but I will also add my two cents about it. I lost 18 pounds one summer on it because it forced me to pay attention to my portions. As everyone else has already said, it won't be easy but supplements are really not the answer. I am working on the last 20 pounds right now and it has been slow going. For weeks I saw no changes and then I suddenly lost 3 pounds when I started really paying attention to calories but NOT going below 1200 and actually staying closer to 1500. As others have said, dropping to low actually works against you. Most fitness and nutrition experts say that a pound a week is a healthy loss, so you are looking at 10 weeks. It might be that you lose 2 or 3 one week and then none the next, but don't give up. It will happen!

I'm not familiar with any supplements for dieting, but try cutting out "starches." NOT carbs... but starches.
Complex carbs are fine...but it's the simple refined starches that can make some people gain weight. ie: white rice, bread, potatoes etc.

I too am 5' tall. So I know even 5 pounds can really add on a lot of weight. Lots of people I know lost a lot of weight from just cutting out rice. (here where I live, rice is a daily staple).

Good luck!

Search for "Lipovox" on the net. Worked for me, and I am not crazy about diet pills AT ALL! Clears acne too if needed. :)

If your lookin' for a quick fix, I'm sure anything over the counter will do. I've done the Green Tea, Hydroxycut, ect. But if you want to change your weight and over all health, look up the Fat Flush Plan.

Hi R.,
No matter what you cut your calories down to--you are not going to lose weight if you are not eating the right things. One of the best eating plans I ever did was call Fat Flush. It really taught me how to eat food that will help you lose weight---PLUS it teaches you what supplements are best for weight loss. It is all natural and organic--it combines healthy eating and natural supplements that you can get at any health food store. DO NOT USE DIET PILLS---they are only temporary fixes---you will only gain the weight back. I have a 5 month old--and am nursing--so I cannot diet. But, the skills that I learned through researching The Fat Flush diet has helped me lose 50 pounds. You can pick up the book at any book store. Good luck.

Hi R.,

I'll have to disagree with one of the moms who has, in general, good advice. Many small meals will actually make weight loss HARDER. This is because blood insulin stays UP for at least 3 hours after a meal, so if you "graze" throughout the day, you cannot burn fat.

Nor does cutting calories necessarily help, because depending on what meals you cut calories on, the body thinks you're going into starvation mode and then BURNS fewer calories, not more.

Here are some suggestions that should help you lose weight more easily (though don't get disappointed if you lose only 1-2 lbs. a week):

Have a SUBSTANTIAL breakfast each day that includes protein (eggs, fish, tofu, etc.). Evidence shows that people who skip breakfast are heavier and more prone to diabetes. Having a hearty breakfast actual sends signals to your brain to burn MORE calories throughout the day.

Make sure you get plenty of veggies, cooked as well as raw, and cut back on "simple" carbs like pastas and breads.

Have your last meal of the day at least 3 hours before bedtime (longer if you can), and don't snack during the evening. This will also help decrease your insulin levels during the night, which in turn sends signals to your brain to burn more calories while you sleep.

In short, a hearty breakfast and an early dinner, with meals spaced out rather than two close together, will help. You're doing great already with the exercise.

Best of luck!

Hi, R.,

No weight loss supplement! You're now coming into an age where you have everything in life fighting against weight loss. Combat that with a total change in your eating habits. I suggest Weight Watchers. It's not a diet as much as it is a life changing way of eating FAR MORE HEALTHY WITHOUT cutting out anything. YES, YOU CAN STILL HAVE DESSERT AND THAT GLASS OF WINE. You have two plans to choose from, FLEX or CORE. You'll also be teaching your kids about good choices because what you learn from WW also carries through to the rest of your family as they too will be doing the healthy eating habits that you will be passing on to them. I highly AND HEALTHILY recommend trying that first before anything else. It's so affordable and DOABLE! It's also a real test in your honesty with yourself! GOOD LUCK. MAYBE I'LL SEE YOU AT THE MEETING. I go Mondays at the Sherman Oaks facility, and the leader is Rosie. She lost over 100 lbs and did it without exercise. When WW first came to be, it was all about just eating right, and that's how she did it. Now, they encourage exercise. Believe me, if you bite it, you WRITE IT! IT'S ALL ABOUT HONESTY.

If you are staying towards the 1200 calorie area and exercising, unless you have a lot of weight to loose you will not shed the pounds that way, that is too little food and you have most likely sent your body into "food trauma" RELAX about the 15 lbs. Change your exercise routine or add a little "more" to it. More meaning, if your are not sweating you are not working hard enough.

The diet industry is out there for one reason--to make money. It preys on people who want a quick fix instead of a lifestyle adjustment. If you use a supplement, then you'll just put the weight back on when you stop using it and going back to eating real food. The only sure-fire way to lose weight is have your calories out be greater than your calories in. You also need to be careful about eating too few calories for the amount of exercise you're doing. If you take in too few calories, your body goes into starvation mode and your metabolism slows down, which prevents you from losing weight. There is a fine balance that you need to maintain.

Instead of wasting your money on a fad diet or supplement, go to the local gym and make an appointment with a personal trainer. A certified personal trainer knows all about diet, exercise, and appropriate caloric intake for your activity level. If you don't feel comfortable going to a gym, make an appointment with a certified nutritionist. Eating more fruits, veggies, and whole grains will help you lose weight too. Cut back on the sodas and drink plain water instead. This method will take longer than the quick fix of a diet pill. But the weight will stay off as long as you maintain healthy eating habits. Your husband and kids will also benefit from a healthier diet.

I'm also short (5'1") and lost the last 10 lbs. of my baby weight by cutting back on the desserts (I have a big-time sweet tooth) and eating smaller portions/meals about 5 times/day. Some of these "meals" are a piece of fruit or two. My co-workers tease me about eating all the time. I also run a lot, which helps to keep the weight off.

Good luck. It will take time, but the weight will come off. I never thought those last 10 lbs. would come off just from making some minor dietary adjustments, but they did.

Hi R.,

If you have already set time aside to work-out, then I strongly suggest running! I use to work out 3-4 times a week and saw myself toning-up but not losing the inches I was hoping to lose. Long story short, my daughter runs track and practices 3X/week. Instead of sitting in the car for 1 1/2 hrs waiting for her, I decided to run myself. I would run, do lunges, squats etc. I lost amazing inches in no time. My eating habits stayed about the same, but running really worked for me! good luck
