Seeking Childcare/School Environment for My 2 Year Old

I have an almost 2 1/2 year old daughter. I have been her only caregiver her whole life. My husband works full time and I stay home full time with her. She is very shy around people other than my husband and I and a few close relatives and friends. I am worried that she doesn't really know how to interact with other children. When I take her places where she can interact with kids she tends to want to just play with me. I am looking for somewhere to take her, maybe a childcare but more like a school maybe once or twice a week just so she gets some social interaction without me. I've never had her in daycare and am a bit worried to leave her with strangers. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

I know that you have suggested finding somewhere to take your daughter where she would be in a social setting without you, but I have a suggestion that might help without having to look into childcare. Finding a Parent-Tot class of any kind might help. There are all kinds of classes offered for that age range from music to gymnastics to art to library story times. You can find a lot of listings and advertisements for these types of classes in Metro Parent or through your local public schools. There are also just standard Parent-Tot classes. Many are offered through preschools and through the public schools. I live in Walled Lake and there is a Parent-Tot class offered through our Community Education. There is also a Parent-Tot class at my sons' preschool. Both of my sons attend Lollipop Co-op Preschool, one is in the 4 year old program and the other I attend the Parent-Tot class with. It meets on Thursday mornings and all of the children really like it. They play together within the comfort of having a parent there with them. Walled Lake may seem a bit far for you, but we have had parents/children from Waterford attend the school in the past. If you would like any information, you can call the school at ###-###-####. There may be a school closer to you with a similar program. In any case, I hope that you find something that suits both you and your daughter. Good luck! E.

Hi B., my name is S. and I had kinda the same issue with my middle boy. What we did was enroll him in a 2 day 2and a hlf hour pre-school class. The first day he cried but I found it in myself to walk away. I felt horriable and almost cried but when I came back to get him he told me he had so much fun he wantedto come back again. Some kids take a little longer but its worth it in the end. Good luck!

Hi B.,
My name is C. and I have the best daycare in the whole world. My son is now 5yr's old and has been in this day care since he was born. I love it and so does he. They have a school like set up, story time, crafts and wonderful food. It really helped him when he started pre school and now with kindergarden. Sam goes to Ruthie's Day Care and the phone # is ###-###-####. We are an inter-racial couple and our little boy is Hispanic, we adopted him at birth. Hi,
Sorry about the delay in response. Just wanted to let you know that Oakland Family Services in Pontiac has many early childhood programs (some with mom and tot and some with tot alone and mom has her own time). Plus there was a free play group on Thursdays and I believe it was in Clarkston or Waterford. Waterford Early Childhood School District is very helpful also. Hope this helps.
