Seeking Caterer for MY Mom's 50Th Birthday Party

Hi all...I'm in search of a caterer for MY mom's 50th birthday party (happening in April). The guest list is approximately 100 and our budget is $1,000 for food (on the low end, I know, but I'm hopeful). I'd like "party" foods that could be set up buffet syle (no servers needed)...wings, pastas, chips/dips, etc. The party will be held in Fresno, TX (near Missouri City and Sugar Land...and not far from Houston and Pearland). Thanks for your help!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

We've decided on a 50th Fiesta and will be having Escalante's do the catering. Thus, I am seeking a person who could come and lead SALSA dancing (for a period of time) during the party (and for a reasonable fee). I'm also in need of a deejay who knows how to work a crowd, and who has a decent collection of R & B (old school and some current music)...and some salsa music.

My mom is a caterer. She might be able to help you. Call her at ###-###-####. Her company is called Plan-It-Events. My sister-in-law is a chef (recently graduated from the Culinary Arts Institute of Houston). She might be available to make your cake. Let me know.

My brother in law's uncle did an excellent job on my sister's wedding. He has a restaurant The Milk Pail in Alvin. Tell him what you want and what your budget is and see what he can offer. DO tell him what your budget is right up front. Otherwise, what he will offer you will be about $10 per person and might discourage you before finding out what you might actually be able to get for $1,000.

Sheretta: It might sound a little "hokey" but you might contact Jason's Deli in SugarLand see http://www.jasonsdeli.com I recently gave a party for a small group - and I ordered online (including drinks) and they had everything ready to go upon pickup! Check'em out!
Good Luck,
J. L.

You really do not need a caterer. With the proper planning, you can do this yourself and have a little money left over. You can call stores like Sam's, HEB, or Central Market to see what they have available as far as finger foods ( it's a yes on the finger foods straight from their deli) and delivery. You can rent a margarita machine and go to Arne's for your party decor. Ask anyone about Arne's and they will tell ya it's the one stop shop for every occasion. Get some festive Tiki Torches to light the walkway or the atmosphere outside. Some white 'holiday' lights....a little thought could save you some serious dough as all teachers and working mothers know every little bit counts! Best of Luck to ya!
