Seeking Career Ideas

I am looking for ideas for a career transition. I have been working in the Real Estate Field for the last decade and would like to make a change due to the bad market and economy. I have a Master's Degree in Accounting but employers see me as a Real Estate Professional. I need a steady pay check so self employment isn't an option at this time. Times are hard and I would like to make a change soon.

Hi
Have you tried posting your resume on:
www.monster.com
Good luck

My husband recently got his MBA and is two or three classes from his Masters in Accounting. He has his resume posted in most of the job seeking websites, monster, career builder, etc. but its through a head hunter that he's gotten most of his positions. (He changes jobs...a lot.) I would post your resume and contact a head hunter. Head Hunters contact him all the time when they see his resume on-line. My husband also teaches at the University of Phoenix. I believe with your Masters, if you survive the interview process you could teach Accounting courses. My husband really enjoys it, but he teaches at night, I don't know if that would work for you.

Good Luck!

Where do you live. This is the perfect time of year to contact an Accounting firm. They are probably looking for people to close 2008 books and start the tax season. They'd probably like to test someone out for a while to know if they want them when things get crazy.

I was an accountant in "my other life" before kids. Not a CPA, but worked for CPAs. I loved being the worker bee. Would probably be a good fit for you.

Good luck, J.

I commend you on your talents. Although, the market is down right now, keep you liscense up to date. I'm not sure what have been the employment demands in your area, how about business of tourism/travel? It appears your talents in working with people may help. You may also try entry level positions and sell yourself in banking/investments where your skills in real estate may help. Perhaps, seeking employment consultants for referrals may be an opportunity. I wish you and your family success in your transition move.

A good idea might be to go to a Temp agency. I used to work for one locally in HR.. .and they were really good. Lots of Moms applied and got jobs.

This may be an option and a good idea for a Mom. At Temp agencies (a reputable one), there can be flexibility, part time or full time options. Also, they do the placement for you.

Also, there are "free lance" jobs online. If you Google the topic, a lot will show up.

All the best,
Susan
