Fiona,

I have a neighbor who teaches at an elementary school in Alpharetta who I can ask and e-mail you back with the answer. I live in Cherokee County, so personally I am not familiar with the schools in Alpharetta. As far as your question about "financial jobs", what sort of financial jobs are you looking for? Financial Services? If that's what you're interested in, Bank of America has one of their supervisory offices on Windward Parkway in Alpharetta. That might be an option for you. Check their website -- bankofamerica.com.

Good luck!

Hi Fiona!
I live in Windward which is in Alpharetta. It is the largest subsivision in ATL with 2400 home but has a very small feel since it is broken up into neighborhoods. The prices range from the $300's to millions. THere is a lake and awesome pool and incredible tennis center. It was the 2nd choice of the olympic committee when the olympics were here. I know it has produced many great tennis players too. The schools here are great too. The public ones to serve Windward are Creek View and Lake Windward. Hope this helps. I do know of some realtors in Windward that I am sure would love to help you if you would like names let me know. L. ____@____.com

HI - i moved down to alpharetta from NYC last year! im sure you will love it down here! where are you from in NY?

my primary concern was a great elementary school too - abbotts bridge elementary on abbotts bridge road is great. my oldest son is in pre-k but will be attending abbotts bridge next year.

as far as a tennis academy goes..are you talking about for a child, or for yourself? i play at the standard club. they have a great tennis program - but then again, so do so many places down here. my 4 year old takes lessons through a park program currently, which is great too. the parks down here are very sports oriented.

hope that helps!

you can email me at ____@____.com if you like....

Fiona,

It's funny you mention "tennis academy" in your post. I grew up in Port Washington (on Long Island) where the very well known Tennis Academy is located (I actually went there for some lessons when I was young...not that you could tell now).

Alpharetta is a very active area with most neighborhoods (called subdivisions here) having their own tennis courts and teams.

Are you interested in the tennis for you or your kids (or both)? Depending on the subdivision, there are plenty of tennis teams you can join at many levels of abilities. To name just a few: womens, mens, mixed doubles, juniors (separated by age groups).

There are a number of organizations you can play on for teams: ALTA (Atlanta Lawn and Tennis Association), USTA, KSwiss (for singles matches), T2 (for doubles). I play on all but KSwiss. I really should play KSwiss to improve my game but it's difficult to fit it all in with my kids and job. Each league has many levels for the different abilities.

One of the first questions I was asked when I moved here was: "Do you play tennis?" and I won't be surprised if that is one of the first questions you'll be asked as well.

You'll love it down here! You can email me at ____@____.com if you have any questions.

Hope to meet you some day!
L.
