Hi there, my 17 month old son has been diagnosed with Asthma. He has been wheezing with colds since he was 4 months old. It seems as though I have gotten conflicting information on how to treat him and this has caused me a lot of anxiety and uncertainty. Does anyone know of any asthma education classes or seminars for parents in the N. Wilmington area? Thanks so much and God bless, Jen P.

What can I do next?

I have to agree with the prior response. First and formost you need to find a specialist for your child. They should have the information you need and support groups. Asthma is a very scary thing for both the parent and child. I am an adult with asthma who hopes it is not something that I passed onto my own child. I will say that my Doctor, Nguyen (Glasgow/Pikecreek) is fantastic. My daughter has the signs of having allergies and will be his future patient. I never feel like there is a question I can't ask him or his staff.

AI Dupont is wonderful. I have been seeing Dr. Raj Padman since my son was about 2 and we love her (though I heard through the grape vine - not sure how true - that she is retiring soon). My son is now 4 and we have his asthma under control with meds and will soon stop seeing the specialist unless needed for more sleep studies and such.

My son has been on Singulair since before he was 2, he has also been on Pulmocurt/Albuterol as needed in his neb since infancy and he was just given a Flovent inhaler (he still has his albuterol inhaler for as needed). The Singulair alone has helped hold off many of his attacks - he has allergy/cold induced asthma.

Good luck!! I definitely advise going to Dupont if you have not already and Dr. Padman came highly recommended to me and I highly recommend her!

Do you see the allergist at AI Dupont? I would check with that department, maybe they know. I have two daughters. My older daughter has asthma and she is 3. She takes a preventive medicine twice daily- Flovent through an inhaler. She has had several attacks in the past and has been hospitalized. This year, she has gone an entire winter without a major attack! My younger daughter, 13 months, is on a preventive medicine of pulmicort twice daily. She wheezes when she has a cold. Both girls use albuterol as needed. Both girls have also had chronic ear infections, and tubes. If you have any questions, maybe I can help?
