Seeking Affordable Yet Reliable Antique Furniture Restoration/Upholstery Service
I have a number of pieces of furniture (large and small) from my grandparents things. I would like to have them restored after years of neglect. I do not think they are valuable but are very sentimental to me including a settee that my great-greatgrandfather supposed made himself. Has anyone found a good resource for this service? I have seen Addison Upholstery but am concerned about using without getting some referrals from some that may have had their heirlooms restored.

We used Aaron's Touch Up http://www.aaronstouchup.com/ to restore a piece brought over by my husband's great grandmother. It turned out beautifully and we were very happy!

Do not use Childress. I was not satisfied with the job they did on a piece of furniture of mine. I contacted them and they were not at all interested in making it right. I then tried calling their supervisor and she would not return my phone calls. I dealt with the Childress's themselves. Very disappointing!!!!

We live in McKinney and just had a perfect experience having a rocking chair from the 1930's restored and the seat recovered. He came by for an estimate, took the chair, performed the restoration and delivered it back to us within a week. They were absolutely wonderful to deal with and the price was great as well. I think they each have been in the furniture business for 20+ years. We highly recommend them! They are: Circle J Furniture Repair: Dennis Jones: ###-###-#### and Thien Dinh: ###-###-####.

Try Affordable Antiques in McKinney: ###-###-####. I haven't used them myself, yet, but we're due to get several family antiques ourselves in a couple of months, and I've had this place recommended by several people, including antiques dealers in downtown McKinney who use them to fix up stuff before they sell it. They do both refinishing and upolstry, and, as you can tell by the name, specialize in antiques. I have been warned that the place looks a bit like a dump--they don't have a fancy showroom, you just visit them in their workshop, but they know what they're doing. I have gotten one report from a woman who said they upolstered her couch with the fabric facing the wrong direction, but she said the pointed it out to them and they promptly re-did it correctly at no charge. Everyone else I've talked to (4-5 friends and neighbors) has reported high satisfaction with them.

There is an unpainted furniture store in Plano, but I can't remember the name of it. I just remember that they gave us the name and number of a furniture restoration individual and said they have recommended him to many customers. However, we haven't used him for our project yet.
