Seeking Advise on Keeping Food down a Teething 9Mo Old

My 9 month old is working on growing his 2nd top front tooth and is having trouble keeping food down. I understand that it isn't uncommon for babies to get fevers and whatnot during the teething process. He doesn't have a fever but I am hesitant to feed him when he gets hungry since he has puked (projectile!) a couple meals a day for the last 4 days. Then it's his clothes and mine that need to be changed.
What to do? Is there anything I can feed him to settle his stomach?

Thanks in advance for your responses.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you for your responses. I didn't think it was anything serious since he was smiling and happy. Who knows. He is fine now. The Doctor said that he could have an allergy... but the solid food I was feeding him was all the same that he has had previously.I'm just glad that he is over his bug. I appreciate your feedback!

i agree with the other moms. This has nothing to do with teething. He sounds like he is sick. He may even have an ear infection or sore throat. Take him to the ped.

Have you tried "HY-LAND TEETHING TABLETS"? They are Homeopathic (all natural) they help in a lot of areas of teething. They melt in the mouth. There are about 125 tablets in the bottle.
Try feeding the baby soft foods. If the baby was/is able to handle baby food (not spicy) feed him that (less projectiles).
Good luck hope it helps.
You didn't state what you have been feeding him. What are you giving him that have Projectiles?, if he only has the beginning of (2 teeth's). I don't quite understand something.
He has only "puked" up a couple of meals in the last 4 days, What was the food that he pucked up? What was the foods that he had kept down? Out of (4 days) equal to 12 meals, what are the meals that he is keeping down? Look at the meals and feed him the food that he can handle.

If he doesn't have a fever, rash, or other signs of being sick, I would say for now that this puking is normal.

He is still learning how to use his tongue and mouth to move food around. Is he couging or choking before the food comes back up? My DD who is 12 months and still has no teeth will often projectile vomit when a piece of food gets stuck or goes down the wrong side. She will also projectile vomit if she can't cough up drool or gets a throat itch after eating a meal.

Babies will also vomit if they are allergic to what they are eating. But usually you will notice other symptoms first (rash, itching, mouth swelling, etc.) with food related allergies.

I would just keep an eye on things for now. Watch what foods come up, watch for other symptoms of allergies, watch for other symptoms of illness, etc. And if it gets worse, give your pediatrician a call.

But I would think that if your baby is gaining weight fine and otherwise seems like his normal self, than this projectile vomiting is just a phase and once he gets more used to eating solids foods and chewing and swallowing, he will be just fine.

FYI: My DD would projectile vomit for the reasons I mentioned above since 6 months old when we started her on solids. She is now 12 months old and every few days or so something just doesn't quite make down her throat the right way and she will cough and projectile vomit it up. And every so often she will go to sleep fine only to wake up a few hours later to cough up something and projectile vomit all over everything. Her ped says she is fine and everything is normal.

Good luck, don't worry too much about it (easier said than done, I know) and just keep a watch on things for now.

I would call your doctor. Babies don't usually throw up because of teething. It could be a virus or bacterial infection. I hope he's feeling better soon.

If my son did that i would have him at the Dr.
That isn't normal teething behavior.
Good luck

I haven't heard of vomiting as part of the teething process (I have three kids). I would have a dr. check this one out since it could be something gastrointestinal.

S.,
This very well may not be connected to his teathing. Be sure to have this checked out by his pediatrician as soon as possible.

Hi S.-
I hate to concern you, but that doesn't sound like teeething- more like a virus. To make sure he doesn't get dehydrated, make sure he produces one wet diaper every 8 hours. A nurse gave me advice to avoid protein until my daughter could keep food down- its too hard to digest. I think a bland diet and lots of fluids is your best bet- and call your Dr.
Good luck!

S.,
Couldn't agree with these mom's more. This is not teething behavior. There is a big myth that babies run fevers when they are teething - that is not a true fact. I recently read an article de-bunking that statement (an "old wives tale). It certainly sounds like your son has some kind of bug....and it could be that the reason why he is "puking" is because he is hungry and eating too much food at a feeding. Try giving him a teaspoon or two at a time; wait for 15-20 minutes and then give him some more. If he's eating solids, try giving him something blah, like cheerios - just a small handful at a time. Think about yourself, after experiencing the same thing, you wouldn't think about eating a huge hamburger after suffering from a bug, would you? Most likely you would start off with some soup and crackers until you knew that your stomach could handle it, right? Same thing with the little guy. Now, it could also be that he is teething, but that would just be a coincidence.

doesn't sound like teething at all. The stomach flu is going around, I would get him checked out. If it is the stomach flu go with the brat diet. Get him checked out by his ped. and they can give you more advice. This is definatlly one for the doctors, not for us mommies!
