Seeking Advice Trying to Conceive at 43

I was wondering if anyone could offer some advice (tips, support, etc) at trying to conceive at my age (43). I have heard many daunting stories, but was just wondering if anyone could share their stories to give me some perspective and support. I do have two wonderful children (one conceived with Clomid 10 yrs ago, the other naturally) but truly do want to have another (without necessarily jumping right into the costs associated with IVF). Chiropractors/holistic medicine welcome, but would prefer traditional methods.

I worked with a Naturopath Dr for my many fertility problems. I rebalanced hormones and reduced my fibroids all working with him and became pregnant at 41. What Beth suggested is very similar to what I did. It can work!

Good luck and God bless,
G.

Personally I am a chiropractor and have seen many great results from freeing up the nervous system. So if your looking for something natural that will enhance your nervous system try it. I have seen amazing things.

My sister is 46. She has 2 older children, but also has a 4 yr old, and an 11 month old. They were conceived naturally. She just waited, and let it happen. They are all healthy, happy children. I use the free calender at ovulationcalender.com. That might be helpful for you. Good luck! I hope you can conceive naturally! I also hope you'll ignore what Nancy had to say. There are soooo many healthy babies born to older moms. Being older doesn't have to mean your child will be handicapped. And it is sooo unlikely that a 63 year will need to be cared for by their child. Ugh!

I'm in that boat with you. I've done the clomid thing and nothing seems to work. I'm REALLY tired of hearing that I'm too old, too! I have three from a prior marriage but my new husband has no children. We really want one to feel our family is complete. Let me know what works for you - we're almost to the point of donor eggs and we'd like to avoid that.

I know several women who have used accupuncture either alone or in conjunction with clomid to successfully conceive.

You might want to try "The Maker's Diet" for a while - it's a good all around body/immune strengthening diet that will get your whole body functioning optimally, with the best pre-conception nutrition you could hope for.

Hi L.,

My husband and I had our first child at age 41 (conceived at 40). I got pregnant right away and had no complications during my pregnancy. I started trying to get pregnant with my second at age 43.
After 4 months of trying with no success, I decided to see a fertility specialist. I was devastated when he told me that My FSH was very high (29) and that I only had about a 1% chance of conceiving each month.
To make a very long story short, I was able to lower my FSH enough do the assisted fertility treatments for 6 months (with the help of meditation and acupuncture). I believe the acupuncture was really helping because the doctors were shocked by the improvements in my hormone levels and by how well I was responding to treatments each cycle. In spite of that however, I still did not get pregnant.
I decided to stop the fertility treatments and just do herbs and acupuncture. I also tried to improve my diet as much as possible and include the highest nutrition foods that I could. I had been doing a lot of research on supplements and started using Maca, Evening Primrose oil, bee pollen, CoQ10 and Spirulina along with a good vitamin with Omega 3. I did a lot of meditation and soul searching to try to understand how my emotions might be effecting my fertility.
This January I was really starting to feel like my hormones were balancing out and that I was getting to a good place emotionally. In February, the month that I turned 45, I got pregnant! I will be 15 weeks pregnant on Monday and everything is going well. I had the genetic screening tests done for Down Syndrome etc. and everything is fine. (By the way- Even though your risk is higher as you get older for having a baby with certain birth defects, you still have a 95% Plus chance of having a healthy baby. (Apparently one of the other posters does not understand that).

When I look back on the things that I did to try to conceive, it is hard to say what it was that worked. My guess is that the herbs and acupuncture did help my body get back into balance and the meditation did help my mind get back into balance. If someone could not afford the acupuncture treatments or did not want to go that route then I think meditation and diet improvements could achieve the same thing (maybe with just a few key supplements added).
I found that Gratitude, Love, Faith and Surrender are the most powerful forces in the Universe. Be Grateful for all the blessings in your life, Love yourself and your body, have Faith that everything will work out for the best and then let go of the outcome of trying to get pregnant and Surrender it to whatever Higher Power you believe in. Those things alone can work miracles!

Please feel free to contact me if I can share any other information.
Oh, also..I found Jennifer Bloome's newsletter very helpful. You can sign up at http://www.anjionline.com/index.php

I wish you the very best of luck,
B.

Hi L....I wish you all the best in making this happen. I was very late in trying to have my first child, at age 37, and I spent 5 years trying everything I could using traditional methods. I finally turned to IVF and made it happen. So I was 43 with my first, and wanted to have a second. Went straight to IVF again, but it took longer than I liked because we kept finding polyps in my Uterus. But finally we got past that, and I had another child at 48. By the way, due to my age, and the dramatically decreased viability of my eggs and the increased risk of downs syndrome I decided with both to use donor eggs. Everything has worked out wonderfully, and I have two beautiful children. Good luck with whatever direction you decide to take.

I suggest trying yoga along with whatever method you use. Ravi/Ana's DVD called Yoga House Call, available at Amazon.com, has a segment focused on increasing fertility. Be warned though, three could get you four! My attempt for 3 got me beautiful identical twin boys! As you get older, your body becomes more prone to multiples! Good luck!

Energy work can be very useful with fertility issues. I am a Reiki practitioner and I have a couple of procedures that are specific to this. If you would like more information, please let me know and maybe I can help in conjunction with the medical procedures you may decide to use. Best wishes - think positively. You can do this.
