Seeking Advice on Writting a Book...

Hi-I am wanting to write a book all about adoption..All sides of it.. My quest is to educate the public. I simply dont know where to start, I have a draft but not sure what is the next step? I have been on both sides of adoption, I want to help others with questions, fears and the unkown. I know that when I considered placing my baby up there wasn't a book that helped me. I want to change that. Any suggetions would be greatly appreciated.

What can I do next?

HI D.,
We just recently adopted a baby boy. Our church was a wonderful resource...see the site at:

I would like to know if there are any mommy groups for adoptive parnets in the area. Thanks- T.

I wanted to wish you the best on your book. Education and experience are valuable tools in making decisions.
I was a social worker for years and heavily involved in family reunification. Later, I became a foster parent and was lucky to adopt 4 children with my husband. I can tell you that although adoption fulfilled our hearts, I continue to feel pangs of sadness for their birth mothers as they had to let go.
In a way, I have seen both sides of adoption issues and my children have taught me so much.

Good luck!! H.

Not quite sure what your looking for? Personal experience from yourself and others is always good, and definatly has to come from the heart. Sometimes you can publish small articles to magazines and then turn all those articles into your book. That is a good way to find a publisher..
Hope that helps. C.

If you are wondering how to get it published, there is a book put out every year called the Writer's Market; your local library should carry it or you can buy it anywhere. It basically lists thousands of publishers, what they publish, and what they require you to submit with your initial submission. I hope that helps.

I'm sure you have put a lot of your heart and soul into this book. Are you wondering on how to get it published, and where to market your book? I don't know anything about publishing (I'm sure you could find alot of info on the internet), but I imagine that places like Carenet, and the Adoptiona Assistance organization would be a great place to distribute it once it's published.
God bless your endeavor to educate others in the blessing of adoption.

I GOT PREGNANT VERY EARLY AND GAVE HER UP FOR ADOPTION. I HOPE THAT SOME DAY SHE WOULD LIKE TO MEET ME. I HAVE SINCE HAD A FAMILY OF MY OWN AND WONDER HOW SHE MIGHT FEEL, ie:WAS I NOT WANTED?? ETC. I THINK MY STORY MIGHT BE COMPLICATED BECAUSE LATER I WAS WITH AN ABUSIVE MAN, AND THE FAMILY THAT ADOPTED MY FIRST DAUGHTER ALSO ADOPTED MY 3RD. SO THERE WAS ONE IN BETWEEN THAT I HAVE RAISED, I THOUGHT THAT RELATIONSHIP WOULD WORK...IT DIDN'T. I DON'T WANT THEM TO EVER THINK THAT IT WAS BECAUSE THEY WEREN'T WANTED. I SURE WISH I WOULD HAVE HAD SUPPORT BACK THEN, OR SOME LITERATURE. STICK WITH THE BOOK, IT WILL PROBABLY HELP LOTS OF MOTHERS. TRY A PUBLISHER, THAT WILL EDIT IT.
