Hello Moms-Anyone have anything that has worked for snoring? Growing up my Dad had a very loud snore, but refused to do anything about it. My poor mom would end up in the spare bedroom halfway through the night several times a week. My mom loved my Dad and just would say, it is part of the the give and takes in a relationship. It is starting in my marriage. We both snore, but I am a lighter sleeper and I end up leaving to another room halfway through the night so I am not dragging the next day. We are not in denial and are open to any solutions that have helped. We did try those bandaid contraptions that you put on your nose, that open the airways-they did help, but cost $5 for 10 of them. HELP!

What can I do next?

I know how you feel. My husband snores and he has tried using tow pillows, but ends up off one of them. If I touch him he will usually stop for a short while. Wondering what others suggest. H.

Hi K., I know this sounds like a goofy idea, but it WORKS!!!! Take a t-shirt and cut the sleeves off and make a pocket out of one that will hold a tennis ball.
Sew it on the back of the t-shirt in the middle of his back or slightly higher. Honestly, my boyfriend had a sleep test and he was waking up 3x's every 5 minutes. He was so tired after years of being sleep deprived life was horrible. This was the least invasive thing to do, it works and he uses it every night and has never slept so well. He doesn't snore, and maybe only breathes heavy once in a while. Give it a try and you will both be sleeping and happy!!! D.

Try a humidifier. That really helps my husband. He also rinses his nasal passages with a saline solution in a neti pot before bed.

I'm working in a Sleep Disorder Center. If you have this issues with your spouse or family member, you may wanna consider a sleep study to find out why he is snoring. He may have a breathing disorder (sleep apnea) that's causing it. Observe if he even pauses or stop snoring for a few seconds. These are issues tha cause impairment of your sleep quality and can lead to potential health risk. You can email me directly @ ____@____.com if you have any questions

Take the contraptions that cost $ 5.00 for ten of them and buy some medical tape and trace the outline of the contraption and use your own home made ones, it works I use carpet tape, its strong and light weight. But here is the ticket your missing, because you keep getting up and leaving why should hubby do anything about it, he gets to stay in a comfy warm bed while you move... wrong.. its not your problem its his, and he needs to go do something about it, so in the mean time next time he snores to wake you up you kick him out and make him go sleep in the other room, see I used to do that also ... so when I made hubby leave he finally got sick & tired of it and went and had something doen about it, plus the sex life isn't so much fun when your tired and I would say so sorry snoring made me tired.. men are lazy when it comes to doing something medically with them.. Mom & Dad your only married 4 yrs, you want a life time of sharing the smae bed, go to the doctors have them remove that little gargle thing at the back of your throat... it takes a whole 20 min's to do. if you can prove its causing sleep
depriavation << spell check
insurance will cover it,.

I saw a report on 3 different items that control snoring. -there was a spray that lubricated your throat and stopped snoring in 99% of those that tried it- they even had night footage to prove it but I cannot remember the name- look on the internet for a spray- the report may have been on Good Morning America or a show like that- wish I could remember-we need it too. GOOD LUCK!

Since the cost of actual homeopathic appointment is much higher, here is a “generic” thing to try. It is not individually selected as good homeopathic treatment should, but at least it is not a “mix” that is sold as magic bullet, which it is not, but with regular use and any luck that your constitutional type is close to the one for whom this treatment was designed may prove effective:
1.BACILLINUM 200C
2.BARYTA CARB 200C
Three drops each in a sip of water twice a week.
Followed by :
1. NATRIUM MUR 6X
2. KALI MUR 6X
3. CALC FLOUR 6X
Four Tablets each four times a day every four hours.
each remedy costs ~$7.50 each tube of remedies have ~60 tablets/pellets.

I highly recommend going to the doctor, having a sleep study, and getting a propper diagnosis for this problem! If you or your husband suffer from sleep apnea, there are plenty of medical solutions for that, including surgery. Sleep apnea is dangerous in adults and can lead to many problems, including things from the scope of being tired during the day all the way to premature death. Sleep apnea is characterized by a person not breathing when sleeping. You literally stop breathing until your body kicks back in. This can deprive the brain of oxygen and so on.

My husband is using a CPAP machine until his surgery for a deviated spetum. If that doesn't work for the sleep apnea and snoring, he will have another surgery that will hopefully fix the problem. It's a serious condition that needs attention if that is what either of you have!!

Best wishes in your pursuit of a restful night's sleep!! :D
Huggles!!

I have the same exact problem. My dh is going to the docs for it next month because I am going INSANE!! I always make him go in the spared bedroom though. LOL Not that this helps you, but just thought it would be nice to know you are not alone. It could be sleep apnea if it is really loud so I would have him get checked out. There are also mouthplates that they can fit him with that are supposed to help. I can't wait to see what the doc says for my hubby. I need solid sleep!

Don't take snoring lightly. First of all it can indicate sinus/allergy issues. More seriously, sleep apnea! My father and husband both use the CPap breathing machines at night. The machines are much sleeker and quieter that the original ones. Check w/ your insurance re: sleep study to check for apnea. Our insurance gave us the machine for free. Others have to pay for it. Lack of sleep cuts time off your life, not to mention puts you at risk for car accidents.

you might try a sleep study, both my brothers snore very bad (their wives slept in separate rooms too), turns out they both had sleep apnea. They both now sleep with pressurized apnea masks, and besides curing the snoring, they both have truly restful sleep, which they had never had before.

It may be just snoring, but it also could be sleep apnea. Not all patients who have sleep apnea snore, but many do. Just wondering if either one of you have witnessed gasping or cessation in breathing during sleep with each partner. If so, find a sleep lab and get tested as sleep apnea can greatly affect your health and is potentially serious. Other than that, I would recommend a dental device made especially to keep the airways clear. I would NOT recommend surgery as an option at all. I'm in the sleep field and have found that surgery is costly, most times ineffective, and painful. Good luck to you.

First issue is weight, then I would look into a formed pillow to keep your head and neck aligned with your spine. My husband carries too much weight and snores a lot. The pillow has helped him most. We also spent some money on a sleep number bed and it was the best investment we ever made.

mu hubby has sleep apnea & snores like crazy!! he got a referral for a sleep study. he had to go overnight to a hosp type setting, they hooked him up to monitors & watched him through the night. based upon their findings, they prescribed him a "C-PAP" (also, can be a "BI-PAP", although i'm not sure what the difference really is)which is a breathing machine that u wear at night. it kinda looks like an oxygen machine & it blows a steady stream of air into the nose. took hubby a couple nights to get used to it, but what a WONDERFUL thing for BOTH of us! i finally could sleep next to him all night & HE woke refreshed in the morning! try googling it online, or have a talk w/your dr. about it & check it out. good luck to you!

My cousin is a female, who snored so loud she choice to have surgery. The doctors took out her agnoids and part of the back of her throat to make a larger airway. Even after that, she still snored so much her husband couldn't get sleep. They saw the commerial on tv that was advertising a mouth piece that pulls your jaw forward while you sleep. They ordered it and now She really sleeps much better, and her husband said it works. It's around $80.00 so it's not cheap. There is also a homeopathic spray at the vitamin barn for snoring that works well for me. Good luck keep me informed. If anything helps. It will help others if you find something. -M. R

Talk to your dr. about sleep apnea. it can cause your husband to stop breathing and is very serious. He may need a C-Pap machine like my hubby. My husband said it is the best thing ever. He would be so tired throughout the day, forget things. Once on the way home he fell asleep at a stop light. Now he sleeps like a baby all night and is a wreck if he doesn't use the machine (like when we camp).
My husbands snoring never bothered me so I had a heck of time sleeping once he got the machine. It was too quiet and the machine makes a whooshing noise when the seal of the mask is broken. The worst for me was not being able to spoon as we fell asleep.

Ear plugs worked for me! They take some getting used to, but if you find the right ones they are very comfortable that eliminate most (if not all) of the noise. They are fairly inexpensive, and come in a variety of medium such as wax, foam, etc. I prefer the Leight foam brand. I have small ears canals and they fit nicely with a slight twist, and give me no discomfort in the morning when I wake up.

Try seeing an ENT. There may be something that can be done. You may need to do a sleep study for Sleep Apnea. I know kids have their tonsils removed for snoring, both my kids did. I do remember seeing something that can be done for some forms of adult snoring.

Hi K.,

Sorry to hear you have this problem. I did a quick search for "snoring" on the internet and found alot of info pertaining to snoring at MedicineNet.com. This is the link: http://www.medicinenet.com/snoring/article.htm

It explains what snoring is, what causes it, etc., and there are lots of options to correct it explained there.

Hope this helps you : )

I would also recommend a sleep study being done (ask your primary doctor for a referral). If you don't want to go through with the CPAP machine at night, I would try out a didgeridoo ( http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw?url=search-alias%3Dm... )
There are new studies out there that suggest that playing this instrument would strengthen your airway muscles and prevent them from occluding your airway which causes a flopping snoring sound. And please be careful about surgery; sometimes removal will make the snoring even worse and cause more problems than just snoring.

Wishing you the best!
H.

Have you checked the possibility that one or both of you have sleep apnea? Snoring doesn't always mean that a person does, but it is a common cause of snoring. If you do, there are things you can do to prevent snoring (and other health problems).

Yes! I just read about a great remedy for snoring and also sleep apnea. Believe it or not the cure is taking up the diggeree do. Evidently the vibration of playing the diggeree do on your throat muscles tones the muscles so they don't go slack and cut off air which makes the snore sounds and closes the throat so you can't get a breath in the case of apnea.

It works, has no side effects, and you get to learn a new skill!!!

Good luck!

Love and Bright Blessings,
Deb
