I am a recruiter for a hospital system. My best advice is to look into programs at your local community college. Triton College and COD are great programs. Make sure any program you decide to enroll in is an "accredited" program. You may want to look into general radiographer school first and then go back for Ultrasound. Then you can work in 2 different modalities. Unfortunately, the ultrasound market is kinda saturated these days, so finding a job with being a new grad is a little difficult. (But they are out there)!!

I was also interested in this -- COD has a great program but there is a waiting list, so call today to find out more if you are interested in starting sooner than later.

I believe ultra techs fall under the x-ray field. I would contact your local community college and they can advise you on what schools are available in your area. You could also go on-line and do your own research. Or ask you Dr. or local hospital they may be able to give you some good advice.

Good Luck

HI T., I looked into this as well. Nicoel has correct advice. Beware of online programs, there are many problems with them and you can PM me if you want me to elaborate.

The "best" way to approach it is to become a Rad Tech 1st. Most community colleges require you to be an Allied Health Professional (rad tech, rn, etc) 1st to qualify. Also most hospitals want people who are trained in the medical field prior to doing ultrasounds anyway. Plus, once you work in a rad tech dept, they may pay for your education and clinicals if they are in need of Ultrasound techs.

Good luck, it's a fascinating field!
