Seeking Advice on Family Vehicle

After driving a Ford Windstar for 10 years, it's time for a change. We are a family of 4 with 2 dogs. I am considering a used Volvo XC70 or XC90, or BMW X5 or X3. Can anyone offer their experiences or advice on their vehicle, such as maintenance issues/costs, amount of power driving in the mountains, overall comfort, or any other + or - you have experienced. Thanks so much!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

I bought a 2004 Volvo Turbo XC70 - the AWD wagon - and love it so far. After hearing how people that have them absolutely love them and the fact that their extra safe and reliable, I couldn't pass up the vehicle I've had my eyes on for a while. Thank you all for your responses!

i don't have a volvo but a friend of mine does. she loves it, lives way in the mountains of Montana. she says she will never drive anything else because a frind of hers got in a car accident with the entire family in their Volvo at 65 mph, and they all walked a way with only a few bruises. that would be worth considering!

I have never drived either brands. We are a toyota family and have been very pleased. The SUV and trucks drive like a car - so comfy.. Maintenance is rare - regular upkeep. We have a 97 4runner with 160,000 miles and it runs just like when we bought it.. Handles in the snow perfectly and great for traveling. Hope that helps!

I love my Pacifica all wheel drive, it has more room then my Audi a6 station wagon did, more luxuries then my Audi sedan... better safety features & its AMAZING with its set configuarations. We tried with my 5 year old (at the time) in a car seat, my goddaughters 21 year old boyfriend & her & I had started out wanting the Audi suv or the grand cherokee....but the only car that could fit all of us (& & the 21 year old is 6ft5 with legs out to here, in any seat (meaning the tall one in the way back, middle or front was the pacifica. I have had ZERO problems, it blows throught the winter snow, heats the whole thing up in less then 5 minutes & the ac goes all the way to the back FAST!!
Plus not having an audi ment my repair costs willbe NOTHING compared to the Audi & the insurance dropped a ton (like $80 a month).
It has ALL the luxery's(leather, heated front & back row seats, moon roof, seat adjustments, power supplies, push button entry, automatic opening doors etc) good sound from the factory, as well as front, side & knee airbags, traction control, all wheel drive, has all the safety ratings & my son asks me all the time (admitted he is 6) if he can have it.

We just bought a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan. I love it! It has so much room. It is perfect for trips because it has the stow and go and under the floor storage. Also they are offereing a lifetime powertrain warranty! Which covers everything that is expensive to fix, the engine and the transmission. So that is going to save us thousands of dollars. It drives very smooth. I would go and test drive one if I were you. I didn't think that I would ever like having a minivan but, have been very impressed with how much storage they have added compared to older models.

the xc70 is amazing. My brother has one. The only complaint I hear from him is that the parts and service to get it fixed are very expensive. He also has to take it to a dealer to get it done. Not many people work on foreign cars here in Price. But if you're willing to travel when you need work done I would recommend it because I want one myself!

I have a family of six which includes four kids ages 11 to 5. We got here in June and bought a used Ford Excursion. I absolutely love it. It has a ton of room. It is very comfortable and is probably my favorite of all the vehicles we have owned. It has great power for driving in the mountains and maintenance has not been bad. It had over 100,000 miles when we bought it and we haven't had any problems.

P.,
Have a friend here in CO who bought a Volvo XC80(?) it is the station wagon. LOVES it. It is AWD, goes through our colorado snow like it is nothing. Little maintenance. Great gas mileage. She loves the safe feeling. Zips up the mountains with the quickness of a bird. She said she would never buy anything else.

We (family of 4) love our XC70! We have two large dogs who travel well in the back. A car top carrier is a must for long trips with all of us (we take our dogs everywhere). I highly recommend a Volvo! Great car.
