Seeking Advice on Boarding for Dogs

Hi ladies,

I am getting ready to take a trip that will leave my dog and cat alone for a few days. I was wondering if anyone had any advice of a good place to take a dog? My cat can survive at home by herself, but obviously the dog needs to be taken out and fed and given some human interaction! I am checking into Preppy Pet Suites in Tempe, and was wondering if anyone has tried or heard anything about them or knows of somewhere better? On those same lines, does anyone know of a place that will give my dog the one shot she needs updated in order to be boarded? I know Petco will do shots without exams, but didn't know if anyone had tried that and/or how it went and compared price wise?
Thanks so much!
L.

University Animal hospital on Broadway and hardy has an excellent and beautiful facility. The caretakers are crazy about pets and you can get shots, grooming etc while you are there. They have early and late pick-ups which makes it convenient also. The boarding facility is onsite. We love it there!

Born to Run on Val Vista and Ray. Kim is one of the owners and I have been taking my pug there since they first opened. Our dog looks forward to going there, and when we get her home, she is seriously depressed for a few days because she had so much fun there! We used to go to the PetsMart Pet Hotel, and never had the same response as we do at Born to Run. Try them out.

I board my dogs at University Animal Hospital on Hardy between Boadway and Southern on the west side of the street in Tempe. They are great! Our vet is also located there, so we know we can trust their care in an emergency (should one arise - yet never has). The shot your talking about - is that the bordatella? They gave that to my dogs at the beginning of their boarding and included in the price. They may only do that for their regulars, but it doesn't hurt to call and ask. Their number is ###-###-####. Good luck!

Well I live in Mesa and have used the Petco for all of the shots for my chihuahua/datschund. I have no bad experiences, it is fast and a great price in my opinion. As far a boarding, I have not used any local places. I will ask around and try to get back to you before you leave for your trip.

My friends have used Appleby Kennels and really liked it. www.applebyboarding (dot) com. They are located at AZ Ave and Queen Creek Rd. They rates are very good. The owners are on site all the time.

If you have a dog door at your home and are interested in having someone come in, Animal Kingdom is great. They charge $12 a visit so it is comparable to boarding. We have a dog with health problems, so it gives us peace of mind that he will not get stressed out with staying somewhere else. He can stay in the comfort of our home! Hi L.,
We board our dog at AZ Pet Resort - it's either in Tempe or Phoenix (on Curry Rd. between Scottsdale Rd. and Hayden I think). They have been great. Our dog hyperventilates every time we take him there because he's so excited. It's very reasonable (I think it's quite a bit cheaper than Petsmart) and they do shots there - not sure if they do all of them, but our dog needed a shot to be boarded this summer and they took care of it for us when we dropped him off.
Good luck!

There is also a Petsmart over in Tempe, Elliot near hwy 10. I believe it's Priest for the cross street, next to Costco. They do boarding at that location. Not sure about the about shots, but if you are talking about the bordatella nose spray, vets suggest you to get it a week before you need it for it to take full affect.

Not sure what part of Chandler you are in, there is an animal clinic on the SW corner of Germann and Alma School, next to Fry's groc store). They do shots cheaper than a regular vet. (Sorry I can't find the phone number at this time for you.)
Good Luck!

There is a great place in Gilbert that we take our dog to called Born to Run. It is at Ray and Val Vista, we drive from Tempe because it's worth it. It is basically a converted house with a huge back yard that the dogs can run in. The dogs are out for the better part of the day running and playing, and come in for a lunch break and then at night. We have always been very pleased with their service, and our dog is so exhausted when we pick her up that she doesn't want to do much else other than lie around and sleep for a day or two, which is nice when you get back from vacation and have unpacking and cleaning to do! Their web site is www.borntorundogs.com. Good luck!

Sorry for the late response.. I just returned from an overseas trip. I agree with Appleby Kennels and we board our two dogs there. Very inexpensive compared to everywhere else we tried. There is a lot of room for them to roam when it is playtime for the dogs. Appleby Kennels ###-###-####. They are basically down a small road which is right across from Hamilton High School in Chandler.
