Seeking Advice on Adult Acne
I have never had a problem with acne, but recently I have had terrible break outs in my chin area, which is also causing scaring or dark perminant bruises. I am so embarassed and it looks terrible! I am looking for a recomendation on some beauty products that will help with the breakouts AND a product that will "fade" the bruising and scaring. I'm also interested in hearing if anyone has had any type of treatment frm a dermatologist.

Hi M.,
I can't recommend a product but I can recommend a dermatologist. Dr. Amy Taub and her practice, Advanced Dermatology is located in Lincolnshire. They often do research studies on new treatments for all sorts of skin issues and most recently I've noticed they were looking for candidates for acne studies as well as dry skin disorders. I've done a couple of studies there (not acne related) and they provide the participant with the treatment or medication, you receive compensation and sometimes money for travel time. Every study is different but it may be worth a try if you are not too far. I don't have the number on hand but you can google and when you call ask to talk to someone about the acne studies. They call the research part of the office Skin QRI. Good Luck.

M.,
I'm in the SAME boat. I've never had a problem and now my right jaw area breaks out all the time. I've been considering going to the doctor for about 2 months. As soon as I think it's cleared up...I'll get another large pimple. I'm SO curious to hear your responses!
Edited to add: I have an IUD, and I've been suspecting it to be the cause of that and some recent weight gain. My OB/GYN doesn't think so, but I'm really wondering.

Hi M..
I've had acne ever since I was a teenager, and I'm 32 years old now. The only things that have worked for me and kept my skin clear were birth control pills and Pro-Activ. The main active ingredient in Pro Activ is benzoyl peroxide, and I believe you can get this over the counter if you don't want to spend the money on the entire Pro-Activ system.
I have a co-worker who started breaking out when she was in her 40's and she said that when she started getting facials on a regular basis, it really helped clear up her skin.
Good luck. I know how frustrating it is.

I feel for you. I've had it all of my teen years and then some into adulthood. Yes, there are many factors that can contribute to acne - stress, bad cosmetics and facial cleansers that have mineral oil in them and diet. Do drink lots of water to flush out toxins. I agree, our skin shows what is going on inside of us both physically and emotionally.
I use the highest grade of salacylic acid in a regimen - a wash, toner, spot treatment and a vitamin. Plus a good mask a few times a weak. Also have a great new product to smooth out the skin and another one to reduce dark spots. All are botanically based and 100% guaranteed. I'd be happy to share information and pics with you if you would like.
Take care and let me know how I can help you.

Recently went through the same thing and was blaming it on new protective masks that were bought in the dental office I work in. Luckily I have a friend who is a nurse in the surgical end of dermatology at rush. They have a non-surgical branch in her office as well and she scheduled an appt. Seems like hormones do a number on everything as we get older. They wanted to give me antibiotic for the acne but I declined as it would contraindicate the birthcontrol I am on so the gave me RetinA and that works wonderful. It drys up the face quite a bit and you are asked not to go into direct sunlight while you are on it. The dryness of the face is just all the gunk getting dried up and when the skin sloughs off you have a new fresh and renewed scar free face underneath. FYI My fiance broke out bad in his back for about 3-4 months before he gave in and went in to the dermatologists. He ended up taking the antibiotics and it worked as well. I was told to follow through with Clean and Clear Blemish Wash with 2% salacylic aic (i think thats how it's spelled) twice a day and Aveeno moisurizer with SPF 30. The in the beginning use 10% benzoyl peroxide topically over the acne again twice a day and when the blemish. This over the counter method also works now to control the breakouts. Good luck.

Treatments and such are just that. A dual approach works much better. Acne, many times is caused from diet. Since the skin the is body's biggest organ and it used it to detoxify, the toxins might be coming out on your skin.
You might have an allergy to some foods. You want a products that nourishes your skin with vitamins at the same time. I would have more information if you are interested in knowing more.
