Hi,
My husband and I just bought new bikes and now need a bike trailer for our 2 year old daughter. We'd like to keep the cost under $300 if possible. Any suggestions on the brand and type?
Thank you!

We have the Chariot Cabriolet, and it's great. It holds 1 or 2 little ones, and we just bought the kit to convert it into a double jogger. I highly recommend it!

what is your goal? Long trail rides, jaunts across town?
If long, I'd go for something that she can sit IN... But if its just short rides and her balance is good i'd look into one of those attatchable bike extentions. Sorta turns your bike into a 2 seater. That would be useful for longer than a cart would... Unless your planning on short trips to the corner store and need somewhere to put a bag or two...

Hello, i just bought a bike trailer but i looked and i put an ad on craigslist that i was wanting one and it had to be nice and clean and in good shape. A lady emailed me and sent me pictures of it and it was really nice. So i went and met her and bought for $60 and brand new this costs about $100 to $140, this one i have is a Weeride bike trailer, it is really nice and my daughter is 25 mos. and she LOVES it!! Good luck!

I love my Bell trailer. I even take it on vacations. Can be an excellent aide to get them down for naps when their routine is all askew from the trip. And they maneuver so nicely. I never expected that.

My former manager was a bicyclist BIG TIME. She told me to NEVER use the seat that turns your bike into a two seater. There is no stability or protection should you lose balance and fall for any reason. The pull behind bike trailers are made with stablizers to help keep them from tipping even if your bike falls over. Also there is enclosure. But based on your question you aren't even considering the booster seat.

Hi J.. My husband and I purchased a Schwin bike trailer from Target. Our kids love it (they are 2 and 4)! They range from $100 - $200 and they carry a few in the stores.

Hi J.

We have the Burley D'Lite trailer that we got when my daughter was 1 (she is now 6) that is so light to pull. It doesn't even seem like you are pulling anything even with my 2 girls in it. I got this one based on recommendations from friends and test drove a couple of brands and this was my favorite.

They are usually pretty pricey new but you can find a used one for around $150 or $200 on craigslist or ebay sometimes. We definitely have gotten our money's worth out of this and it is worth the extra money. Good luck and definitely try to get a used one if you can as they hold up very well and ours still looks brand new after 5 years.

Hugs,
B. P.

With summer right around the corner, I suggest looking at local yard/garage sales or in your local paper's classified ads. You can get a good one for $30-$50. I'm not sure on name brands, but make sure that the tires are a good quality rubber like your mountain bike's tires. I would stay away from any that have hard plastic wheels like that of a regular stroller. Craig's list is also a great place to shop. However, you have to look and look and look! Good luck.

We have a Chariot for 2 children. LOVE it! Has a little "trunk " for diaper bag, lunch, groceries etc, juice box holders on both sides, harness straps or both and it folds up super nice to fit in the car to take with us on vacation!

We just got a Burley 2 seater and it works good. It was found on Craig's List and is an older model but we've had no problems.

If you really want a bike trailer, I don't have any recommendations, but we use a weeride (www.weeride.com), and REALLY like it. Inexpensive, too. The deluxe is around $80, but the one that we have is around $45. The bike seat goes between the riders arms--great for talking and it won't throw off your balance like the seats in the back. You can also get a separate bar and flip it back and forth between the two bikes.

Once you get some brand advise - I would suggest you check out craigslist to find a used one at a decent price.

I would recommend a little research before purchasing one. There have been many accidents using these and children have died or have been hurt badly. Our pediatrician does not recommend them. I don't know if some are better than others, but it is well worth it to research the products and if the only kind that is safe is more expensive than $300, I would suggest saving for a while and making the purchase when you can afford it. Your child is worth it. :-)

I hope it works out for you. I do know there are bike seats that you can attach behind your seat, so the child sits at your level behind you. We had one of these as did many members of my family. You need to practice a little bit before you put your child in it, but they can be a lot of fun. Also, make sure your child has a helmet, no matter how old they are. The seats are safer than the trailers.

I hope this helps.

The one that we have is great and, better yet, I found it at a garage sale! I didn't want to spend a ton on it since you only use it for a couple of years. The other great place is at mom to mom sales (mom2momlist.com). Used ones are about $40 which is what I paid for ours. It was only used twice and is in great shape. New ones are great, but if you're trying to cut corners like us, the used ones work just as well! Good luck finding one!
