Seeking Advice for Gassy 6 Month Old

My son's gas issue has become more problematic recently. I have tried Gripe Water and Mylecon and neither have been successful. I can't pinpoint a food that makes it better/worse. Please help!?!?!?!?!?!?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

I think we figured it out. My son was eating 50% breastmilk and 50% formula. I have been slowing down on pumping and now he eats all formula and baby food with the occasional breastmilk snack. I switched to a soy formula (Similac Isomil Advanced) and he has been a happy camper!
Now I have a new question...
He really enjoys Yo Baby yogurt but if milk is an issue I probably shouldn't give it to him. When is it appropriate to try it again? For now I'll bring it to work for a snack!

My son developed diahria after some vacinations. The best help for his tummy was Baby Acidophillous (sp?). I still give both my children a childrens' powdered acidophillous that I mix in their milk once a day. I buy it from Vitamin Shoppe.

Hi S.!

Is your son on formula? If so, what kind? My daughter(s) started on similac. I tried many different formula's with my duaghter until we changed her to Enfamil Lactofree and that was like night and day. My younger one had her first bottle of similac and we knew it was a problem so we changed her to Enfamil right away. The nurse said that they recommend starting the second child on the formula the first child ended on and that was what happened.

If you are breastfeeding, you may want to try an elimination diet. Dairy is most often the culprit. Has he had any solids yet? It could be something he isnt tolerating well. Its hard to say what could help without getting more info from you! :)

Everyone already gave the obvious advice, keeping a record of food and such. My daughter was very gassy for a while and we eneded up having to have her checked out by a pediatric surgeon, don't know if this will be your case but I would call his doctor and tell her what's going on, she may want to refer you. After several trips to the surgeon and trying a few different things, my daughter is perfectly fine now with no surgery!

Good Luck, it's heartbreaking to have a lil one in pain, you'll get through it :)

My daughter was born with reflux which i had while pregnant with her. We used the drops as well. She also had been seen by the doctor; he gave her a test barium swallow.

The best advise is to discuss with your doctor ir breastfeeding they have nutritionists and breastfeeding support at the hospitals. If this is a formula issue talk to the pediatrician, my daughter ended up on Nutramigen with 1oz of cereal to hold it down.

A little about me:

Mother of 7 - 3 in college ranging from age 2-23

S. do you warm his formula little bit before giving it to him? if not please try doing that. Good Luck!

if you are nursing him also keep a log of what you are eating...certain veggies...like broccoli give lots of babies gas...also make sure his diaper isn't too tight and try different positions of holding him...if you can't resolve it soon call your peditrician...they're there to help and it could be more than just gas( don't get worried)keep looking for a pattern between time and food and see if you can resolve it but if not call the doctor.

Ahh..I feel your pain. It hurts my heart when my daughter is gassey too. My mom taught me a little trick and it seems to help her get her gas out. Take his legs, bend his knees in toward his chest and hold them there for a few. I shake her legs a bit too. Repeat. Hopefully that will help and give him a bit relief. And help u not feel so helpless. Good luck!!
