Seeking Advice About Candida Related Problems

Hi ladies,
I have a question for those of you who believe in Candida and/or have struggled with it (my last doctor did not believe in it, so I found a new one). After almost a year of doctors (including Mayo clinic!), I have no answers for "peripheral" neurological symptoms, extreme muscle fatigue (with elevated CPK - a times my muscles are literally breaking down, but this comes and goes), persistent digestive issures, and joint and muscle pain. The docs I saw ruled out muscle disease, autoimmune disease, heart issues, cancer, etc. In the end my doc told me to deal with it and suggested maybe I should go on an anti-depressant (then he wondered why I cried at him; in his mind it probably reinforced my "need" for anti-depressants). After reading "The Yeast Connection", I am convinced that I have candida (yeast overgrowth in digestive system, which acts as a toxin and gets absorbed into body). So, I found an alternative MD who believes in it and have had a few good signs. . . . I've been on Nystatin for 2 months which didn't do much. So, he put me on Difflucan for a week and I felt AWESOME! I am not sure if this means it is for sure a yeast problem, but it seems that either it's a REALLY BAD case of Candida or it's something else altogether. I'll be seeing my doc again next week. I was just wondering if anyone has dealt with candida and what is your experience. I am contemplating trying to completely go off of all sugars, including natural sugars and all fermented products (this feeds the yeast). My doc had said that probably wasn't necessary, but I think I should give it a try. Anyone else had any experience with this?

I too believe I have Candida. Unfortunately I have not found a solution to it. I did however find a website that claims they have a solution, but I haven't tried it yet. The website is www.candidasupport.org and they have a lot of information and support about Candida. There's also information on there website on how to do free home tests to see if you have candida. I did the test and confirmed that I do have it. I hope the website helps. Please let me know if you try the product and how it works. I will do the same. Thanks

Did you do a stool or urine test to measure candida? Replenishing healthy gut flora, healing your intestines, removing allergens and replenishing nutrients are all important parts of candida, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia and celiacs disease. I work with a great naturopathic doctor who has helped me with my fatigue by having me remove allergenic foods, giving me nutrient IVs and great supplements, I see Dr. Weeshoff at Life Sculpting.

I know exactly what you are talking about. I have battled yeast for years. Please email me so I can give you my number. I would love to talk to you about it. There is too much to talk about and I don't have the time to type it all on this blog. But yes, the book you read talks about the little known thing of yeast and the connection it has to many disorders and people get misdiagnosed all the time. Please email me and we will definately talk! You have the right instincts to go off sugar. Follow your gut.

S.,
I think you are on the right track about the Candida. I suffered from Fibromyalgia for more than 4 years. Your symptoms sound like what I began with. I was very forntunate to find a program that has gotten the Candida under control and giiven me my life back. It is with a business called Alternative Health. They are out of the east but the owner comes to Tucson once a month to treat clients. You are right to give up all sugars. Also any vinegar, white flour, artifical sweetners, beef, pork, mushrooms, peanuts and pistachio nuts. Any yeast products are a no no as yeast feeds the Candida. I can give you more information on this if you want to contact my personal email. It is ____@____.com. I can't believe what a turn around my life has taken. It is worth a try to get your health back.

I too had the Candida problem which occurred with my last baby. I read "The Yeast Connection" which is a marvelous book and a huge lifesaver. I went on the elimination diet and felt so much better, that I created a "What I Did" manual to help others with this all too common problem. I found someone who is a herbalist and combined with recommendations from the book, along with vitamins, minerals, and detox herbs from Shaklee, we've come up with a great program to help other woman with this condition. Drop me a line and I'd be more than happy to send it to you.

Take care,

I am not sure what Candida all is but, have you ever heard of Fybromyalga? FMS can only be diagnosed with pressure points from a doctor that believes in it. But your symstoms sound like it is a possibility. The easist way for me to describe it, is I feel like my body has the flu or I have just done a major work out. The muscles hurt, the bones hurt, Joints hurt. There are days where I just can't move. There are no blood test or cat scans that will detect it. Some Dr.'s are skeptical about it. Please check out the web site for this. It is ____@____.com this is just a thought to try and help.

Hi! What you are describing sounds like when I went through 8 years of trying to find what was wrong back in 1988, when docs told me similar things discounting that anything was wrong and certain conditions did not yet "exist"-but your descriptions sounds like fibromyalgia which I do have and is under control with a low dose of Elavil-25 mg and exercise. I also had a sleep disorder which contributed to some of my problems, also associated with fibromyalgia. An endocrinologist would be able to tell you by pressing the points mentioned in the other advice I read that you received. Do not give up, be positive and take care of yourself. I know that while you are in the throes of this that seems impossible, but I have come out the other side and you will endure. Regards, R.. Feel free to write to me.

No, candida related symptoms are not in your head. Back in the 90's I developed hives over various places on my body (along with other health issues) and had the problem for a year before I too read "The Yeast Connection". I HIGHLY recommend doing the diet regime for a month (more if you can or desire...I did it for 3 months but only because my husband and both my neighbors did it with me and we kept up with it out of peer pressure!) After your course of presciption meds, you should also try a natural supplement. Most of them contain Caprylic Acid and Pau D'Arco along with other ingredients. Take them during the month you are abstaining from sugar, breads, alcohol, etc.

I really hope you get some relief. I'm assuming that your doctors ruled out MS? Did you get x-rays and MRI's? I don't mean to plug my business since that's not what you were asking for, but I am a licensed Naprapath in Farmington, New Mexico (Naprapathic physicians are connective tissue specialists and treat neuro-musculoskeletal disorders). If you want to see if I can be of help, you can call me at ###-###-#### or check out my website www.harmonynaprapathic.com (still under some construction but it will give you the jist of what to expect).

I had it years ago. And I think I had that book and followed the diet. I have a really good alternative doc in town who helped me the most. And I just learned of another really good one in town who I'm sure could help. Let me know if you want their numbers. I haven't had it or thought about it in years. Although I don't think I had it as severly as you do (I would suspect you have other things going on besides candida too).

I agree with all the other responses that you will need to change your diet. My husband is a holistic health counselor, he used to teach at windhawk in mesa. I would recommend you seek services there. Most "western" docs are just starting to understand the link between nutrition and our health. Why treat it with a pill when changing you diet could get to the root of the challenge?

I love this stuff called Yeast Cleanse. Here is an picture of it:http://www.luckyvitamin.com/item/?itemKey=65925&utm_s...

I used it for years and I think helps tons. But I have fasted just before and noticed that it was almost completely gone. But then it comes back as time goes on. You can check to see if you have it by doing something pretty gross but it works, I read it in a book about Candida. If you stick your finger in bellybutton and see if it smells then you have an overgrowth of it. I think the more sugars you eat the more it feeds itself. You basically have to starve it from the things that make it grow like sugars and cheese. Which is hard though. I read a really great book called Weight Loss : An Alternative Medicine Definitive Guide http://www.amazon.com/Weight-Loss-Alternative-Medicine-De.... It is the best book to learn about health. The best thing it taught me was to eat more fruits and veggies.
I hope this helps and you get it fixed.

I was seeing a natropath for this reason. Yes - you need to eliminate all yeasts, sugars and mold. Now, with that said... It was very difficult to do. I managed for a few months and it helped a lot. I just couldn't afford it any longer than that. Now, I try my best to avoid those things, and don't eat much of them. I definately needed the three months w/o to jump start my body, though. Best of luck.

S.,

You have a lot of the signs of Celiac Disease. As I read your request, I heard the alarm bell for almost every single symptom that you describe.

You did mention that you were tested for autoimmune disease; did your doctor include the blood work for Celiac Disease?

Here are a couple of useful links:

http://www.southernarizonaceliacsupport.org/disease/#symp...

Please go to that page and read through it. Scroll down to "Checklist" and then click on the button that says "Compare your symptoms against the symptom checklist". You will get a PDF called, "Know Your Celiac Score".

As you put it, it may be "something else altogether", and I think you're right.

The gluten free diet one needs to be on for Celiac Disease would be easier than eliminating all yeast.
Where are you located? We've a great doc in Tucson who can give you a second opinion.

In any event, kudos for you for fighting for a diagnosis. I wish you well.

Hi S..... yuck! I'm sorry you have to go through this. I dealt w/ yeast when I nursed my girls. My twin sister has also dealt w/ yeast alot & did find that diet change was huge! Neither of us dealt w/ it the way you have.... but what we have found is..... diet change, look into changing your bath towel every day, your toothbrush at least once a week; don't use hand towel but paper towels, & change your sheets at least once a week. Yeast breeds on all those things as well. This all helped my sister immensely. Another thing that really helped me & my sister was to support our immune system. We found the best way to do that is lots of veggies & frutis. Since fruit has sugars in them we found a product that is fruits & veggies that doesn't have the sugar in it.... Juice Plus+ is 15 fruits & veggies & 2 grains that have been put into capsule form. Since starting Juice Plus+ I haven't had yeast problems.... There is some great research behind the product & I have actually singed up as a rep. If you are interested in learning more you can look at my webstie....

I hope you find relief... Candida is definitely a huge problem in more people than realize it!

You should read "The Maker's Diet" by Jordan S. Rubin.
He is the one that came up with the Garden of Life products that some of the other resposes are talking about. It is a really good book and explains how your gut and yeast and bacteria effect your body. I would go to sprouts or another health food store right away and get some garden of life probiotics. Ask the people that work there but I think the best one that he has is the ultimate probiotic. Anyway his probiotic has stuff in it that no other company has in theirs. Hope that helps you.

Have you been tested for Celiac disease? More people have problems with gluten and wheat than they realize. There is a blood test, then if antibodies are in your blood stream, there is a biopsy of the intestines that will give you a definitive answer.

Hi S.- Do you have the 'points' for fibromyalgia; that is what it sounds like. Have you been tested for Lyme disease? There's a lot of it here. That said, try a nutritional specialist. Mine is Hiunter Yost, and I love him! Well, I don't, but I have been feeling much better. It is OK to take an antidepressant if you are in a lot of pain. You will be able to function, at least, without crying all the time. He'll put you on a diet- yes, mine cuts out most sugars as well as gluten and dairy-, and he'll recommend supplements. Try it, you'll like it.

Currently, I am on citalopram for the tranquilizer and tamazepam for sleeping, but have been able to cut back on the citalopram when I am feeling well. Fibromyalgia diagnosis was made about five years ago now. Of course you are depressed- your body has turned against you, and you are in pain. No one is willing to give you any answers. I was lucky- I went to a pain specialist first, not a regular MD. It has since been confirmed by University of Washington med. school staff, so I have a little paper, which I no longer need, to get me out of having to work, if necessary. Am now working full-time, taking my meds, on my diet, and doing well most of the time. Very tired on weekends, and a little fuzzy in the head if I do too much, but that is it.

Good luck, hope it helps- S.

My mom has been on a special yeast diet for 3 years and it's difficult but she has had much success. In short, you have to go off of sugars, dairy, most breads, processed foods. There is a product called Threelac (sp?) that is designed to help the body rid itself of yeast. It does take a long time. You might also want to get a second opinion. I would try a rheumatologist since they specialize in testing for autoimmune that other doctors don't. You can have an autoimmune disorder without reflecting specific inflammation markers. That's all a doc will test for generally. Try getting a second opinion with a specialist. You may also want to test for Celiac's Disease as well. Some of the symptoms you describe are also tied in. There is a connection with autoimmune, Celiac's and usually there is an overgrowth of yeast present. Please message me if you'd like more info.

PS Any kind of peripheral neuropathy is indicative of something more serious than depression. Do your research and keep on pushing til you get some answers. You are your best advocate.

Yes, to reverse this issue you will want to stop eating large quantities of foods with yeast in them (breads, beers, etc.) as well as all processed sugars - especially high fructose corn syrup - and - STOP using pharmaceuticals. You seem like you have done some good research. If your intuition is telling you to take care of something - do it. I am a certified herbal consultant. My best suggestion for proven products that will help clear the entire body of yeasts - and parasites which colonize the fungi - are Amazon Herbs. There are several of the formulas that contain herbs that are specifically anti-fungal. Arcozon contains Jatoba and Pau d'Arco as the main ingredients - these are specifically anti-fugal/anti-yeast. You also need to stimulate clearing the system of the waste material and flush out the yeast through the digestive system instead of the skin if possible, so the herbs in Envirozon, Digestazon and Fiberzon are essential for cleansing and supporting these organs. The Treasure Tea also contains these herbs and drinking it is also very helpful to stimulate the kidneys, liver, intestines and gall bladder to flush out your system. I would recommend eating these formulas daily for a couple of months at least, depending on how extreme your case is, starting with one dose a day for about a week and working your way up to two or three within the first month, then maintaining or even increasing that for the second month. You will see strong detoxification with this but if you continue with it you will successfully clear your system of yeast, fungus and parasites, and naturally balance your blood glucose levels creating an environment unfriendly to yeasts. As long as your body is detoxing you should continue the regimen. Once you see a difference in your body and how you feel, then you should maintain as you feel necessary - even continuing with daily doses. Another product that would be very beneficial during the detoxification would be the Recovazon as it accelerates healing and relieves inflammation. If you want to address any tumor issues the best product to add would be Gravizon. Also, Calmazon if you have any anxiety or sleep issues. And a couple of other good products to help keep your mood elevated are Zamu (or Pure Camu if you prefer) and Aquazon. These will help with mental clarity and mood as well as support the other formulas of detoxification. All these herbs can be used individually with good results, so if you are concerned about any reaction, do them individually to begin with, but when combined they are very powerful and especially active. They are food plants so they are completely SAFE with no additives, fillers or artificial ingredients. Their beneficial properties have been widely researched and documented. They have been carefully and sustainably harvested from the Amazon rainforest, never had pesticides or chemical fertilizers applied, and they have never been irradiated (pasteurized) so the vital energy of every nutrient is still bio-available. Of course always drink plenty of pure water because without it all yours cells suffer - and more water in means more flushing out of toxins. All products are 100% satisfaction guaranteed by the company for a full year, and, if you are interested, there is also an opportunity to create sustainable income through your use of these herbs - a way to help offset some or all of the cost. My mission is to empower people to help themselves and heal the planet. If you have any questions or want any more information on specifics feel free to visit my website: www.shootingstarherbs.amazonherb.net.

The folks I know that have truly conquered yeast have followed a traditional diet or the Body Ecology diet. These diets promote the use of real food and lots of cultured and fermented products. After you stabilize your system, you can very likely return to real milk (not the processed stuff sold in stores), soaked or sprouted flour bread, small amounts of real sugar (not the white stuff or honey sold in most stores) and more. I also know people who returned to health with the help of Garden of Life products. I am not sure which ones, but you can look into it.

Here's the body ecology site: http://www.bodyecologydiet.com/

Many people who eat a traditional foods diet get help and support from the Weston A Price Foundation:
http://www.westonaprice.org

Good luck!

ETA: look into coconut oil. It has anti microbial properties that seem to really help those fighting candida!
