Seeking Adhesives for Wall Decorations

Is anyone aware of any type of adhesive that can be used to hang things on the wall without damaging the wall? I want to put my daughter's name on the wall with wooden letters and I want to avoid having to make a hole in the wall for each letter. Someone told me to check out the 3M hooks, however I thought those may be too large for what I am trying to do. Any ideas? Thanks.

It depends on how big the wooden letters are. My son's hang with the blue sticky tack you can get most places in the office supply section. It will come off clean, if there is a spot I would use magic eraser. If you have it there for a REALLY long time you might see the spot, but it is just a paint touch up.

There is this white, tacky, putty stuff that teacher's use on their classroom walls.
I think you can buy it at any office supply store. If the letters aren't TOO heavy,
it should work. : )

Instead of using the wooden letters, you could also get adhesive letter wall stickers, and you would have to worry about the nails or the letters falling off! They have some really cute ones at Target.

3M also makes some "hangers" which aren't really hooks, they are more like velcro that you can use to attach painting and such to the wall, so I'm sure you could use it for your wooden letters, too....and I've used the 3M products before and they come cleanly off the wall when you are ready to remove them

I believe the 3m hooks are called command hook and you can find them at places like Lowes and the Container Store. I love them and they are really easy and DO come off later without damaging the wall if you need to remove them.

J., I hot glued ribbon to my letters and hung them onto the wall with clear push pins. It gave them a little style. If you cut the ribbon shorter, the letters will hang straighter, if you leave the ribbon longer, tie a bow at the top, the letters have more give and hang more creatively.

Also, if you are looking for an alternative to the wooden letters, my friends hosts home parties for a company called Uppercase Living. These are vinyl wall expressions that are completely removable without damaging any surface. There are expressions already made in many colors to choose from and you can also customize your own, such as a name. Her website is:http//jenniferking.uppercaselivng.net

I am actually having a show at my home next Sunday. I am not sure where Mokena is, but I would be happy to have you join us for an afternoon tea/benefit.

If you can't find the hangers near you, you can try to use the extra 3M backing (made for the hooks) and cut to size. We have letters hung on my daughters wall this way, though they're not wood. Good luck!

You can get a replacement pack of the sticky pads for the GM hooks, without actually buying the hooks. I prefer that over buying a role of tape, because you still have that non-sticky part to pull on when you're ready to remove them.

Hi J.- The 3M hooks come in different sizes, so you might be able to find one that's the right size. I think that's the best idea for your letters. There was also a product called "Plasti-tak" or something like that. It a putty, but I don't think it would support the weight of a wooden letter. Good Luck!

Hope this helps.

We used poster putty for my daughters letters. Very easy to put on on & take off. Buy it at any well stocked hardware store or even an art/craft store.

I am a kindergarten teacher and am also on a teacher board with a local company called Fibre Craft. They have a new line of wonderful items for little girls' rooms. Go to www.rondoroom.com and you can buy on the site. The materials are adoraable and can be removed and rearranged many times. I hope this works out for you. Have fun!

I also put my daughters name on her wall with wooden letters. 3M has poster hangers that are velcro. One side attaches to the wood and one side attaches to the wall, then they stick together. I have used these in 3 different homes (we've moved a lot lately, LOL) and they didn't damage the walls and were easy to remove. They held well until my daughter was able to pull the letters from the wall when she was tall enough to stand in her crib and grab the lower ones. If you put them up high enough that shouldn't be a problem or on a different wall. Mine were directly over her crib. She didn't grab them until she was 2. Hope this helps!

They make different size 3M hooks. I'm thinking one will work. Otherwise go to Micheals crafts and see what they have. Try the craft section at Walmart.
