I have done "we kids rock" with my two+ year old since he was nine months old and it is great. My 9 month old daughter has been tagging along since she was 3 months and now she loves dancing and clapping her hands. You can check your local YMCA for swimming classes. Storytime at the library is great. "The Little Gym" in Pike Creek starts at 4months (I think) for good gross motor skill development. When the weather is a bit warmer you can go to local farms and petting zoos like Coverdale Farm and Milburn Orchard (in the Fairhill, MD/Newark area). The Delaware Art Museum has a fun kids room where the babies can safely roam and explore worlds of art and creativity without getting messy!
Good luck and have fun!!!

I have a six month old, and all of the libraries have storytimes free for babies as does Barnes and Noble and Borders. There is also a local MOMS Club which has lots of activities and can give you info about joining a playgroup. Check out the site online for the closest one to you. Wilmington Music School has great, great classes for babies through teens. Hope this helps. At least you are in a city, and it is almost spring, I love walking a baby through the parks and sights to see. We are in rural Cecil County, and we have to be pretty industrious to find fun!!

The DE Museum Natural History (on 52) is fun they have two dinosaurs and it is a very nice museum for its size. I have three year old twins and they love it!!

Hi N.,

I have to agree with all the responses you have received so far. The local parents as teachers playgroup is located on Foulk road on Wednesdays from 9:30 to 11:00am at the Church of the Good Sheppards (I think that is the name.) Just a hint... You park in the REAR parking lot, go in the door and you will hear the children. The front parking lot is people who take the bus and the front door is locked. Many people make this mistake. Check it out soon because they close for the summer.

My daughter has been going to the pool since she was 6 months old. I know the Y has a program too but we went to the JCC. They allow non-members to participate. They have it during the fall/winter/spring in the indoor pool and they have it during the summer in the outdoor pool.

Depending how mobile your child is...the Can Do playground off of Foulk Road is fun. Even if they just play in the sand. Bring some toys. Toys can be as basic as a measuring cup. They have swings too. Bellvue has both as well. But beware both parks because entry fees. I just buy an annual pass for $27.

At 2 1/2" we still go to the library. Don't worry the kids are all over the room while the librarian is reading. But the kids seem to love the whole experience.

Wekidsrock.com has a music class for birth to five. Check out their website for time and locations.

Good luck!
